We’re an independent guide — not the DMV. Kiosk availability and services can change; always check the official DMV kiosk page or the locator below before you go.

TL;DR

1What a DMV kiosk is — and why people use it

A DMV kiosk is a self-service touchscreen terminal that handles common DMV transactions in a few minutes. dmv.ca.gov’s own office pages describe kiosks as “convenient and offer services that are quick and easy. No wait times and open daily!” — meaning the kiosk hours follow the host location, not DMV field-office hours.

Kiosks are the fastest official way to handle routine transactions like renewals and replacements. There’s no appointment system for them — you simply walk up and use one.

2Every service a kiosk can do

Kiosks cover these transactions, per the DMV’s official kiosk service list:

3What a kiosk cannot do

Be honest about the limits — kiosks can’t handle everything, and knowing that saves a trip. Kiosks cannot process:

If your transaction is on this list, book an office appointment through the official scheduler instead.

4What to bring

Kiosks are mostly self-service, but keep these handy:

The kiosk prints your registration card and sticker immediately — no waiting for mail.

5How to find a kiosk near you

There are 289 kiosks statewide (October 2026). They sit inside DMV field offices and at retail locations like grocery stores. Use the official locator at cadmvnowkiosk.com to find the nearest one — and check the host location’s hours, since kiosks follow the location, not the DMV.

If you need a full field office instead of a kiosk — for a first license, a REAL ID, or a drive test — our DMV Office Locator finds the nearest one by city, ZIP code, or county.

For the verified list of kiosk locations by city and retail chain, see our DMV kiosk locations guide.

6Languages and accessibility

Kiosks support 9 languages for vehicle transactions and 10 languages for driver’s license transactions. The touchscreen walkthrough is designed to be usable without prior experience — each step prompts you for the next input.

7Kiosk vs online vs office: which to use

Not sure whether the kiosk is your best option? Here’s how the three routes compare:

A common strategy: use the kiosk for the routine stuff and save office visits for the complex items. Many people combine them — renew at the kiosk, and handle the name change or REAL ID upgrade by appointment.

8If the kiosk can’t complete your transaction

Sometimes a kiosk rejects a transaction — expired eligibility, a hold on the record, or a suspended registration. Don’t panic: the screen usually shows a reason code. Common causes include unpaid parking tickets, lapsed insurance, or an address mismatch. For record holds or suspensions, you’ll need to resolve the underlying issue (pay the fine, file the insurance) — an office visit or the online portal may be required. The kiosk locator and dmv.ca.gov’s help pages explain each code.

Stockton is covered too: the Stockton DMV field office has an on-site kiosk, and a Safeway kiosk at 2808 Country Club Rd. runs daily 6 AM–midnight — see our Stockton office guide for hours, services, transit, and drive-test details.

Irvine has no DMV field office, so its kiosks matter even more: the kiosk inside Ralphs at 17605 Harvard Ave. in Irvine runs daily 5 AM–1 AM, with more nearby in Tustin, Costa Mesa, and Aliso Viejo — see our Irvine DMV guide for the nearest full offices, hours, kiosk details, and drive-test info.

Costa Mesa itself has a real field office WITH a kiosk on site (650 W 19th St; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) — the full nine services, including Self Service Terminals — and a grocery kiosk inside its own city limits: Ralphs in Costa Mesa at 380 E. 17th St (daily 5 AM–1 AM, the latest-opening in the cluster), plus Ralphs in Irvine (Harvard) at 17605 Harvard Ave (daily 5 AM–1 AM) and Albertsons in Fountain Valley (16061 Brookhurst St, daily 6 AM–11 PM) for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. Newport Beach has no field office at all, and the Laguna Hills office closed permanently in October 2024 — see our Costa Mesa DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the Laguna Hills closure impact.

San Bernardino’s county-seat office has a kiosk on site, plus Ralphs at 4444 University Pkwy. (daily 6 AM–1 AM) and Superior Grocers at 1108 W. 2nd St. (daily 7 AM–10 PM) in the city, and a Superior Grocers kiosk in Rialto at 151 W. Baseline Ave. (daily 7 AM–10 PM) — see our San Bernardino DMV guide for hours, services, transit, and drive-test details.

Fremont’s field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Fremont proper has a Safeway kiosk at 39100 Argonaut Way (daily 5 AM–1 AM), plus two Union City kiosks (Safeway Decoto Rd. and FoodMaxx Industrial Pkwy.) — see our Fremont DMV guide for hours, services, the five-kiosk cluster, and East Bay alternatives.

Hayward’s field office has no kiosk on site either — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Hayward proper has a Safeway kiosk at 22280 Foothill Blvd. (daily 5 AM–12 AM), plus a Pak ’n Save kiosk in San Leandro and two Union City kiosks — see our Hayward DMV guide for hours, services, the five-kiosk cluster, and East Bay alternatives.

Oakland Coliseum is the East Bay office that pairs a kiosk with full counter service: its field office at 501 85th Avenue has a self-service kiosk inside, and four grocery-store kiosks sit nearby in Alameda, San Leandro, Emeryville, and Hayward — see our Oakland Coliseum DMV guide for hours, services, the Veterans Day closure, the 2025 reopening, and the cities that have no office of their own.

Concord is the opposite case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus a Safeway kiosk in Concord proper at 2600 Willow Pass Rd. (daily 5 AM–2 AM) and a seven-partner cluster — see our Concord DMV guide for hours, services, the four-kiosk cluster, and central Contra Costa alternatives.

Glendale’s field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus a Ralphs kiosk in Glendale proper at 211 N. Glendale Ave. (daily 6 AM–1 AM) and a Burbank/North Hollywood/West Hollywood cluster — see our Glendale DMV guide for hours, services, the nearby-office services trap, and LA alternatives.

Daly City is the Peninsula kiosk case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus Safeway kiosks in South San Francisco (daily 5 AM–1 AM) and San Francisco (daily 5 AM–midnight), while San Mateo’s official listing shows no kiosk at all — see our Daly City DMV guide for hours, services, the three-kiosk cluster, and Peninsula alternatives.

San Mateo is the Peninsula’s no-kiosk case: its field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but two 24-hour Safeway kiosks sit minutes away in Belmont (1100 El Camino Real) and Redwood City (1071 El Camino), plus a South San Francisco Safeway kiosk (2255 Gellert Blvd., daily 5 AM–1 AM) — see our San Mateo DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and Peninsula alternatives.

Redwood City is the Peninsula office that pairs a kiosk with full counter service: its field office at 300 Brewster Avenue has a self-service kiosk inside, and the two 24-hour Safeway kiosks in Redwood City and Belmont sit nearby — see our Redwood City DMV guide for hours, services, the Veterans Day closure, and the Peninsula towns that have no office of their own.

Bakersfield is the closure case: its Southwest office at 7000 Schirra Court is closed for renovations until November 24, 2026, so its on-site kiosk is not usable during the closure — the three grocery kiosks in town (Superior Grocers White Lane and Union Avenue, Foods Co Haley Street) do that job instead — see our Bakersfield Southwest DMV guide for the closure, the alternatives, and the partner list.

Culver City is the Westside kiosk case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus four grocery kiosks on its own nearby list (Superior Grocers on La Brea and Western Avenue, Ralphs in Hawthorne, Superior Grocers in Hawthorne), while Hollywood’s official listing shows no kiosk at all — see our Culver City DMV guide for hours, services, the five-kiosk cluster, and Westside alternatives. And do not mistake a kiosk for the Inglewood field office: Inglewood’s own page shows it closed all fortnight.

West Hollywood is the central-LA kiosk case with a twist: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus the Ralphs kiosk on Sunset Boulevard (daily 5 AM–2 AM) in West Hollywood itself, while Hollywood’s official listing shows no kiosk at all — see our West Hollywood DMV guide for hours, the five-kiosk cluster, and the licensing warning: this office lists no Licensing Services and no Testing, so a licence or drive test belongs at another office.

Santa Monica is the coastal full-service kiosk case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus three grocery-store kiosks (Superior Grocers on La Brea, daily 7 AM–10 PM; Ralphs in West Hollywood, daily 5 AM–2 AM; Ralphs in Hawthorne, daily 6 AM–12 AM) — see our Santa Monica DMV guide for hours, the four-kiosk cluster, and the full nine services: unlike West Hollywood, Santa Monica lists Licensing Services and Testing, so licences, REAL ID, and drive tests can be booked there.

Lincoln Park is the east-side kiosk case with a warning attached: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus the Superior Grocers kiosk on Avenue 45 (daily 7 AM–10 PM) and the Food 4 Less kiosk on Figueroa (daily 6 AM–12 AM), while Hollywood’s official listing shows no kiosk at all — see our Lincoln Park DMV guide for hours, the three-kiosk cluster, and the grocery-store error: a directory places this office inside a Superior Grocers store and prints Saturday hours, but the office is a standalone field office, closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Temecula’s field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Temecula proper has a Vons kiosk at 29530 Rancho California Rd. (daily 6 AM–12 AM) plus a Murrieta, Menifee, and Lake Elsinore cluster — see our Temecula DMV guide for hours, services, the Murrieta Express limited-service trap, and Temecula Valley alternatives.

Indio is the counter-case: the Indio DMV does have a self-service kiosk inside the office (“Self Service Terminals” is the ninth service on the DMV’s own page), and a second DMV Now kiosk sits at Ralphs in Indio, 49908 Jefferson Street, open Monday to Sunday 5:00 am to 1:00 am — the after-hours and Sunday option, since the field office is closed weekends; see our Indio guide for its full-time hours, the three-office valley cluster, and the CDL gap (nearest CDL test is El Centro).

Santa Maria’s field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Santa Maria proper has two grocery kiosks on South Broadway: Albertsons at 2320 S. Broadway (Monday–Friday 6 AM–11 PM, Saturday 6 AM–10:30 PM, Sunday 6 AM–11 AM) and Foods Co at 1465 S. Broadway (daily 5 AM–12 AM) — see our Santa Maria DMV guide for hours, services, the stale-address correction, and Central Coast alternatives.

Victorville’s field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Victorville proper has three grocery kiosks: Food 4 Less at 14738 La Paz Drive (daily 6 AM–12 AM), Superior Grocers at 14668 7th Street (daily 7 AM–10 PM), and Vons at 12199 Hesperia Road (daily 6 AM–12 AM), plus an Albertsons kiosk in Apple Valley (20261 Highway 18, daily 6 AM–12 AM) — see our Victorville DMV guide for hours, services, the Wednesday 9 a.m. opening, and High Desert alternatives.

Newhall’s field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Santa Clarita proper has four grocery kiosks: Ralphs in Stevenson Ranch (24975 Pico Canyon Rd., daily 6 AM–1 AM), Vons in Santa Clarita (16550 Soledad Canyon Rd, daily 6 AM–12 AM), Albertsons in Saugus (27631 Bouquet Canyon Rd, daily 6 AM–11 PM), and Ralphs in Valencia (27760 McBean Pkwy., daily 5 AM–1 AM) — see our Santa Clarita (Newhall) DMV guide for hours, services, the name-mismatch answer, and Santa Clarita Valley alternatives.

Visalia’s field office has no kiosk on site — its official services list omits self-service terminals — but Tulare County’s kiosk cluster covers it: Tulare’s office kiosk (274 E Cross Avenue, office hours) plus grocery kiosks in Tulare (Superior Grocers, Foods Co), Dinuba, Reedley and Hanford — see our Visalia DMV guide for hours, services, the reopening answer, and Tulare County alternatives.

Fresno North is the Central Valley office that pairs a kiosk with full counter service: its field office at 6420 N Blackstone Avenue has a self-service kiosk inside, and three grocery-store kiosks sit nearby — Vons in Clovis, FoodMaxx in Fresno, and Foods Co in Fresno — see our Fresno North DMV guide for hours, services, the Veterans Day closure, and the two Fresno offices explained.

Madera is the one-office-county case: the Madera DMV does have a self-service kiosk inside the office (“Self Service Terminals” is the ninth service on the DMV’s own page), and a second DMV kiosk survives at Mendota City Hall, 643 Quince Street, open Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm — the only DMV presence left in Mendota after its field office closed on September 26, 2025; there is no retail or grocery-store kiosk in Madera itself, so the nearest grocery kiosks are the Vons in Clovis and the FoodMaxx and Foods Co in Fresno — see our Madera guide for its full-time hours, the twelve no-office towns in the county, and the CDL gap (nearest CDL test is Modesto).

Merced, across the valley, is the mirror image with a twist: the Merced DMV does have a self-service kiosk inside the office (“Self Service Terminals” is the ninth service on the DMV’s own page), and it is the only DMV kiosk in Merced County — no grocery-store kiosk is listed for Merced or Atwater, so the nearest retail kiosks are Safeway in Turlock (open 24 hours) and the Safeway and Save Mart kiosks in Modesto; see our Merced guide for its full-time hours, the Wednesday 9 am start, the Veterans Day closure, the nine DMV partners, and the Los Banos Tue/Thu-only trap.

Bishop is the no-kiosk case: the Bishop DMV has no self-service kiosk — “Self Service Terminals” is not on the DMV’s own service list for this office, and there is no DMV kiosk anywhere in Inyo County — so the nearest kiosks are inside Fresno North (84.2 miles, kiosk inside) and Fresno (Olive Avenue) (88.2 miles, kiosk inside), and a Bishop registration renewal is done online or by mail instead of at a kiosk; see our Bishop guide for its Tuesday/Thursday-only hours, the CDL surprise, and the Ridgecrest interlock that covers the other three weekdays.

Lancaster’s field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus two grocery kiosks in Lancaster (Superior Grocers, 1010 E. Ave. J, daily 7 AM–10 PM; Albertsons, 43543 20th Street West, daily 6 AM–11 PM) and two in Palmdale, which has no field office of its own — see our Lancaster DMV guide for hours, services, the Palmdale correction, and Antelope Valley alternatives.

Rancho Cucamonga’s field office has an on-site kiosk — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus a Ralphs kiosk in Rancho Cucamonga proper at 7243 Haven Ave. (daily 6 AM–1 AM) and a Fontana/Ontario/Chino/Eastvale cluster — and note Ontario has no field office of its own, so Ontario readers use Rancho Cucamonga for office visits — see our Rancho Cucamonga DMV guide for hours, services, the Ontario correction, and Inland Empire alternatives.

Santa Rosa’s field office does have a kiosk on site — its official page carries the kiosk badge and lists Self Service Terminals — and it is the anchor kiosk for Sonoma County, since the Santa Rosa page’s nearby list contains no standalone grocery kiosk entries; Fairfield and Corte Madera are the verified kiosk-bearing fallback offices — see our Santa Rosa DMV guide for hours, services, the Rohnert Park and San Rafael corrections, and North Bay alternatives.

Eureka’s field office also has a kiosk on site — its official page carries the kiosk badge and lists Self Service Terminals — and it is the anchor kiosk for Humboldt County, since Garberville has no kiosk and the nearest alternatives are Crescent City to the north or Ukiah to the south — see our Eureka DMV guide for hours, services, the Garberville comparison, and North Coast alternatives.

Placer County shows the same split inside one county: the Auburn DMV has no kiosk at all — the DMV’s own locator lists it as a plain field office while its two sister offices, Rocklin and Roseville, both carry a “Kiosk Available” tag — so an Auburn renewal goes online, to the AAA Auburn Branch, or to a Rocklin or Roseville kiosk instead; see our Auburn guide for its full-time hours and the three-office county picture.

The positive case is Roseville: the DMV’s own Roseville page says “This office has a self-serve kiosk to avoid waiting in line,” and the kiosk sits inside the field office itself, so a Roseville renewal or record request never needs the counter line — Rocklin has the same setup, while Auburn has no kiosk at all; see our Roseville guide for its full-time hours, the three-office county picture, and the AAA branches that cover Saturdays.

Santa Cruz County is the no-kiosk county: neither the Watsonville DMV nor the Capitola DMV has a kiosk at all — the DMV’s own office pages list eight services each, with no Self Service Terminals — so a Watsonville or Capitola renewal goes online, to the AAA Watsonville Branch, or to the Gilroy office kiosk about twelve miles away; see our Watsonville guide for its full-time hours, the two-office county picture, and the partners that cover Saturdays and Sundays.

Tuolumne County is a one-office county with no kiosk at all: the Sonora DMV has no Self Service Terminals on the DMV’s own office page — so a Sonora renewal goes online, to the AAA Sonora Branch, or to the Modesto office kiosk about forty-two miles away in a straight line; see our Sonora guide for its full-time hours, the one-office county picture, and the Saturday option.

El Dorado County is a two-office county with no kiosk in either office: the South Lake Tahoe DMV has no Self Service Terminals on the DMV’s own office page, and neither does Placerville — so a South Lake Tahoe renewal goes online, to a partner, or to the Folsom office kiosk about sixty-six miles away in a straight line; see our South Lake Tahoe guide for its full-time hours, the two-office county picture, and the winter drive warning.

Lassen County is a one-office county with no kiosk in its only office: the Susanville DMV has no Self Service Terminals on the DMV’s own office page, and no retail kiosk in Susanville or Lassen County was verified — so a Susanville renewal goes online, to a partner, or to the Chico office kiosk about seventy-nine miles away in a straight line; see our Susanville guide for its Mon/Wed/Fri hours, the one-office county picture, and the Tuesday/Thursday interlock with Quincy.

Siskiyou County is the opposite case: the Yreka DMV has no kiosk at all — the DMV’s own locations filter lists it without a “Kiosk Available” tag, and no kiosk was found anywhere in the county — so registration renewals and record requests there go online or by mail instead; see our Yreka guide for its Mon/Wed/Fri hours and the Mt Shasta Tue/Thu interlock.

Tehama County is the same story one county south: the Red Bluff DMV has no kiosk at all — the official page carries no kiosk line, unlike Chico’s page, which says “Kiosk Available” — and no kiosk was found anywhere in the county, so the nearest verified kiosk is Chico, about 40 miles south; Red Bluff’s two in-town business partners cover registration-only work on weekdays when the field office is closed. See our Red Bluff guide for its Mon/Wed/Fri hours and the Willows Tue/Thu interlock.

Butte County is the kiosk-rich county next door: the Chico DMV does have a self-service kiosk inside the office (“This office has a self-serve kiosk to avoid waiting in line” is the DMV’s own line, and “Self Service Terminals” is the ninth service on its page), and a second DMV kiosk sits inside the Save Mart in Paradise — the only DMV presence in Paradise, which has no field office — while Yuba City adds a FoodMaxx kiosk (1231 Colusa Ave, 6 am–midnight daily) and an on-site office kiosk; see our Chico guide for its full-time hours, the Wednesday 9 am start, the Veterans Day closure, and the part-time traps at Red Bluff and Willows.

Shasta County is the opposite case: the Redding DMV has no self-service kiosk inside the office at all — its official page carries no kiosk banner and lists no “Self Service Terminals” service — so the county’s only DMV Now kiosk sits at FoodMaxx, 1330 Churn Creek Rd in Redding, open daily 6 am to midnight for registration renewal and similar quick transactions; see our Redding guide for its full-time hours, the Wednesday 9 am start, the Veterans Day closure, the seven DMV partners, and the part-time traps at Red Bluff, Weaverville, and Yreka. That FoodMaxx terminal is also the nearest verified kiosk for Modoc County — Alturas has no kiosk of its own, so Alturas readers use this one.

Solano County is the same story on the Bay side: the Vallejo DMV has no self-service kiosk inside the office at all — its official page carries no kiosk banner and lists no “Self Service Terminals” service — so the county’s largest city sends its renewals to the Safeway terminal at 122 Rubles Drive, open daily 5 am to 1 am for registration renewal and similar quick transactions; see our Vallejo guide for its full-time hours, the Wednesday 9 am start, the Veterans Day closure, the nine DMV partners, and the no-office traps at Benicia and American Canyon.

Fairfield is the mirror image in the same county: the Fairfield DMV does have a self-service kiosk inside the office — its official page carries the kiosk banner and lists “Self Service Terminals” as a ninth service — and it is the only kiosk in the Fairfield, Vacaville, and Suisun City area, since Vacaville’s office has none and no grocery-store kiosk is listed for any of those three cities; see our Fairfield guide for its full-time hours, the Wednesday 9 am start, the Veterans Day closure, the eight DMV partners, and the Fairfield IBC trap on Westamerica Drive.

Nevada County is the same story in the Gold Country: the Grass Valley DMV has no kiosk at all — the official page carries no kiosk line, unlike the Yuba City and Rocklin pages, which say “Kiosk Available” — and no kiosk was found anywhere in the county, including at the Truckee office, so the nearest verified kiosks are Yuba City and Rocklin, each about 40 miles away; Grass Valley’s AAA branch covers registration-only work for members on weekdays when the field office is closed. See our Grass Valley guide for its Mon/Wed/Fri hours and the Auburn Tue/Thu interlock.

Elk Grove has no field office of its own, but it does have an in-city kiosk — Safeway in Elk Grove at 5021 Laguna Blvd. (daily 5 AM–12 AM) — plus a Foods Co kiosk just north of the city at 7421 W Stockton Blvd., Sacramento (daily 6 AM–12 AM) — see our Elk Grove DMV guide for hours, services, the nearest offices, the IBC/CDTC trap, and Sacramento-area alternatives.

Sacramento South’s field office does have a kiosk on site — the office’s own dmv.ca.gov page carries the kiosk badge — and the Foods Co kiosk at 7421 W Stockton Blvd. (daily 6 AM–12 AM) sits in the same 95823 ZIP; see our Sacramento South DMV guide for the full south-Sacramento kiosk cluster, hours, and the Wednesday 9 a.m. opening.

Salinas’s field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus a late-night grocery kiosk in town: Foods Co in Salinas (1030 E. Alisal St., daily 5 AM–12 AM) — see our Salinas DMV guide for hours, services, the CDTC trap, and Monterey County alternatives.

Oxnard’s field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus four grocery kiosks inside Oxnard itself (Superior Grocers on Saviers Road, daily 7 AM–10 PM, and three Vons kiosks, daily 6 AM–midnight) — see our Oxnard DMV guide for hours, services, the Oxnard Express trap, and Ventura County alternatives.

Santa Teresa is the South San Jose kiosk case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus three Safeway kiosks on its own nearby list (Branham Lane, daily 5 AM–2 AM; E. Capitol Expressway, daily 5 AM–1 AM; W. San Carlos, daily 5 AM–2 AM), while Los Gatos’ official listing shows no kiosk at all — see our Santa Teresa DMV guide for hours, services, the two-San-Jose-offices answer, and South Bay alternatives.

San Ysidro is the South Bay kiosk case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus four grocery kiosks in the San Ysidro and Chula Vista cluster (Ralphs and Vons in Chula Vista, Albertsons in Chula Vista, and Ralphs Alta View in San Diego, all daily to midnight or 1 AM), while the San Diego (Normal Street) office has no kiosk at all — see our San Ysidro DMV guide for hours, services, the border-office answer, and South Bay alternatives.

El Cajon is the East County kiosk case: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus five grocery kiosks in the East County cluster (Ralphs on Jamacha Road in El Cajon, 6:00 AM–1:00 AM daily; Vons in Santee, 5:00 AM–1:00 AM daily; Vons in Chula Vista, 5:00 AM–midnight daily; Vons Murphy and Ralphs Alta View in San Diego, 5:00 AM–1:00 AM and 6:00 AM–1:00 AM daily), while the Poway office — the closest office to El Cajon — has no kiosk at all — see our El Cajon DMV guide for hours, services, the East County answer, and kiosk alternatives.

Oceanside’s field office has a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — and Oceanside proper has two grocery kiosks (Ralphs at 101 Old Grove Rd., daily 6 AM–1 AM, and Vons at 845 College Blvd., daily 6 AM–12 AM) plus a Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido cluster — see our Oceanside DMV guide for hours, services, the no-office cities, and North County alternatives.

Moreno Valley has no DMV office at all — but it has two grocery kiosks in town (Food 4 Less at 24440 Alessandro Blvd., daily 6 AM–12 AM, and Superior Grocers at 23857 Sunnymead Blvd., daily 7 AM–10 PM) for renewals and records, plus a kiosk on site at the nearest office, Riverside East (3.9 miles away) — see our Moreno Valley DMV guide for hours, services, the no-office cities, and Inland Empire alternatives.

Fontana has a full-service field office with an on-site kiosk (8026 Hemlock Ave; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) plus three grocery kiosks in town — Ralphs at 16225 Sierra Lakes Pkwy (daily 6 AM–1 AM), Vons at 7390 Cherry Ave (daily 6 AM–midnight), and Superior Grocers at 16055 Foothill Blvd (daily 6 AM–10 PM) — for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. Do not confuse the field office with the separate Fontana Commercial Drive Test Center (10207 Poplar Ave, commercial testing only) — see our Fontana DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the two-door trap.

Torrance is the South Bay kiosk case with a closed-office twist: its field office does have a kiosk on site — its official services list includes self-service terminals — plus the Ralphs kiosk on Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance itself (daily 6 AM–1 AM) and seven more grocery-store kiosks in the cluster, while the San Pedro and Inglewood field offices both show as closed every day on their own pages — see our Torrance DMV guide for hours, services, the nine-kiosk cluster, and the do-not-travel warnings.

Pomona has a full-service field office with an on-site kiosk (1600 S Garey Ave; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) plus two grocery kiosks in town — Food 4 Less at 2090 S Garey Ave (daily 6 AM–midnight) and Superior Grocers at 3180 N Garey Ave (daily 7 AM–10 PM) — for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. Do not confuse the field office with the separate LA Metro IBC in Covina (1365 N Grand Ave, industry customers only) — and note Ontario, Claremont, and Chino have no field office at all — see our Pomona DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the wrong-address traps.

West Covina has a full-service field office with an on-site kiosk (800 So Glendora Ave; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) but no grocery kiosk inside city limits — the nearest are Superior Grocers in Baldwin Park (14433 Ramona Blvd, daily 7 AM–10 PM) and Covina (1375 N Citrus Ave, daily 7 AM–10 PM), plus Ralphs in Temple City (9470 Las Tunas Dr, daily 6 AM–1 AM) — for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. Do not confuse the field office with the separate LA Metro IBC in Covina (1365 N Grand Ave, industry customers only) — and note El Monte’s field office has no kiosk at all (use the Superior Grocers kiosk on Valley Blvd instead) — see our West Covina DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the wrong-address traps.

El Monte has a real field office with NO kiosk on site (4000 Arden Dr; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) — do not drive to Arden Drive for a kiosk task. The cure is the Superior Grocers kiosk on Valley Blvd (10683 Valley Blvd, daily 7 AM–10 PM), 0.8 miles from El Monte City Hall, plus the Superior Grocers kiosk in South El Monte (1858 N Durfee Ave, daily 7 AM–10 PM) and the Ralphs kiosk in Temple City (9470 Las Tunas Dr, daily 6 AM–1 AM) for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. South El Monte has a kiosk but no field office — see our El Monte DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the no-office corrections.

Whittier has a real field office WITH a kiosk on site (9338 S Painter Ave; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) — the full nine services, including Self Service Terminals — and a grocery kiosk inside its own city limits: Ralphs at 14919 E Whittier Blvd (daily 6 AM–1 AM, the latest in the cluster), plus The Market by Superior in La Mirada (12721 Valley View Ave, daily 6 AM–10 PM) and Albertsons in La Habra (1800 W Whittier Blvd, daily 6 AM–11 PM) for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. Pico Rivera, Downey, Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, La Mirada, and La Habra have a kiosk but no field office — see our Whittier DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the no-office corrections.

Fullerton has a real field office WITH a kiosk on site (909 W Valencia Dr; Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, Sat–Sun closed) — the full nine services, including Self Service Terminals — and a grocery kiosk inside its own city limits: Albertsons in Fullerton (Malvern) at 2291 W. Malvern Ave (daily 5 AM–11 PM, the earliest-opening in the cluster), plus Ralphs in Brea (305 W. Imperial Hwy, daily 6 AM–1 AM) and Albertsons in La Habra (1800 W. Whittier Blvd, daily 6 AM–11 PM) for renewals and records when the office is closed, including weekends. Brea, La Habra, Orange, and Buena Park have a kiosk but no field office — and Anaheim’s DLPC closed permanently in March 2023 — see our Fullerton DMV guide for hours, services, the kiosk cluster, and the no-office corrections.

Key framing (use in article): Retail kiosk hours = STORE hours, not DMV hours. Field-office kiosks follow office hours (Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5, weekends closed). Always verify on dmv.ca.gov — the network changes.

Banned/caution

Can I renew my driver’s license at a kiosk?

Yes. Driver’s license and ID card renewals are on the official kiosk service list, as long as you’re eligible for a standard renewal (not a first-time application or a name change).

Can I get a REAL ID at a kiosk?

No. First-time REAL ID applications must be done in person at a DMV office — kiosks can’t process them. A standard renewal can be done at the kiosk, but it won’t upgrade you to REAL ID.

Can I pay cash at a kiosk?

Credit and debit cards are accepted at all kiosks (1.95% surcharge). Cash is accepted at DMV offices and some retail host locations — not every kiosk takes cash, so check the locator or bring a card.

How many kiosk locations are there?

289 statewide as of October 2026, split between DMV field offices and retail locations. Use the official locator at cadmvnowkiosk.com to find the closest one.

Do I need an appointment to use a kiosk?

No. Kiosks are walk-up self-service — no appointment is ever needed. That’s the whole point.

Does the kiosk print my sticker right away?

Yes. Replacement registration cards and stickers print immediately at the kiosk — you walk away with them in hand.

Need something a kiosk can’t do?

Book an official DMV office appointment — first-time licenses, REAL ID upgrades, tests, and name changes all need an in-person visit.
