Crescent City DMV Office: Hours, Services & Appointment Guide
This is the Crescent City DMV in Del Norte County, California — not the Crescent City in Florida. It is the county’s only DMV field office and it sits in the county seat: open Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at 1475 Parkway Drive. It does behind-the-wheel, motorcycle, and written tests, and REAL ID. It has no self-service kiosk, it does not offer a CDL test, and it is not open on Saturday. Renewals, records, and replacement licenses get no counter service here. Independent guide, verified against dmv.ca.gov.
TL;DR
- Address: 1475 Parkway Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531 — just off US 101 at the north end of town, in the county seat and the county’s only incorporated city. The address is confirmed by the DMV’s own Crescent City field-office page, its place data, and its structured office data.
- Hours: Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Closed Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There is no lunch closure on open days — each open day is one continuous 8–5 slot.
- This week: in the week of November 9–13, 2026 the office is open Tuesday November 10 and Thursday November 12 only. Closed Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day (it is closed on Wednesdays in any case).
- California, not Florida: there is a second Crescent City in Florida, and Florida DMV listings sit inside the California search results. This page is the California office, in Del Norte County, about 20 miles south of the Oregon border.
- The Oregon trap: the nearest DMV buildings are in Oregon — Brookings is about 25 road miles north and Grants Pass about 83 road miles east — and neither can do any California DMV business. The nearest office that can help you is Eureka, 67.0 miles away in a straight line on US 101.
- Tests: behind-the-wheel, motorcycle skills, and written tests are offered. No CDL test here — the DMV’s own phone-booking list and its service data both leave Crescent City out, and the nearest confirmed CDL test site is Eureka.
- Kiosk: none — no self-service kiosk in the office and none verified anywhere in Del Norte County. The nearest verified kiosk is inside the Eureka office.
- Appointments: recommended, not required, except the behind-the-wheel test, which is appointment-only. Walk-ins work through the Get in Line queue, 7:50 am to 4:00 pm on the office’s open days.
- Phone: 1-800-777-0133 only. No office-direct number is published for Crescent City — no phone number of any kind appears on the official office page at all.
- REAL ID: offered here. A first-time REAL ID is an in-person visit with original documents.
- Do not drive here for: a registration renewal, a license or ID renewal (unless your notice says in person), a driver or vehicle record, or a replacement license — those get no counter service at this office. Do them online, at the Eureka kiosk, by mail, or through a partner.
1The county’s only office: one of one, and the county seat
Crescent City is the largest city in Del Norte County — 6,673 people at the 2020 census, down from 7,643 in 2010, at an elevation of 141 feet on the far northwest California coast — and its DMV office is the county’s only one: the two-day-a-week, full-service office that serves the whole county of 27,743 people across 1,230 square miles. That is the honest frame for this office, and it matters because the assumption readers bring to this page is the one the template would have written for a bigger county: that a county this size has several offices, or at least a backup. Del Norte County has neither. There is one DMV counter in the county, and it is open two days a week.
The county-seat half of the story is the opposite of the Bishop pattern, and it is worth saying plainly because it is the fact that organises everything else on this page. Bishop is the largest city in Inyo County but not its county seat; Crescent City is both. It is the only incorporated city in Del Norte County, and it is the county seat: the courthouse sits here (Del Norte Superior Court, 450 H Street), the county offices sit here, and the county’s only DMV counter sits here. One town holds all three. A reader who lives anywhere else in the county — Smith River, Fort Dick, Gasquet, Hiouchi, Klamath, Requa — has exactly one town to drive to for any in-person DMV business, and that town is Crescent City.
The no-office check is not an assumption. Every other Del Norte County town was checked against the DMV’s own field-office pages on November 8, 2026, and every one returns a 404: Smith River, Fort Dick, Gasquet, Klamath, Requa, Hiouchi, Crescent City North, and Pelican Bay. Crescent City North is not even a separate place any more — it was annexed into the city — and Pelican Bay is the state prison, which has no DMV service of any kind (see section 10). There is no second office to fall back on inside the county line, and the nearest alternatives are all in other counties — or another state, which is the trap section 2 is about.
The county’s scale explains why the two-day schedule bites so hard. Del Norte County is 1,230 square miles in total — 1,006 square miles of land and 223 of water, about 18 percent water — with 27.6 people per square mile, and the 2020 census counted 27,743 residents, down from 28,610 in 2010 (the 2024 estimate is 27,009). The county’s population is small and spread thin along the coast and up the Smith River valley, and the one office that serves it is open eighteen hours a week. The week of November 9–13, 2026 is the narrowest kind of week this office has: open exactly twice, Tuesday November 10 and Thursday November 12, and a reader who drives to Crescent City on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday finds a closed office, with no other office in the county to absorb the trip.
Crescent City’s second role is one no other office in this series carries in the same way: it is also the nearest California DMV office for the far-northern Humboldt County towns. Orick and Klamath sit closer to Crescent City than to Eureka, and their residents use this office too — which makes the two open days carry more than Del Norte County alone. The office is the county’s only counter and the region’s northernmost California counter, and both facts point the same way: check the day before you drive, and book before you drive.
The city itself is worth a sentence, because the page’s readers are often new to the area. Crescent City sits about 20 miles south of the Oregon border on US 101, the Redwood Highway, and it is the headquarters town for Redwood National Park — the park’s headquarters is in Crescent City, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the northernmost unit of the Redwood National and State Parks system, is about nine miles east on US 199 (see section 12). The 2020 census figure of 6,673 includes the inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison, which sits within the city limits at 5905 Lake Earl Drive; the July 1, 2025 Census estimate for the city is 6,002. None of that changes the DMV facts, but it explains why the town feels bigger on a map than its resident population suggests, and why the DMV office’s two open days serve a county that is larger than its headcount.
2The Oregon trap: the nearest DMV buildings can’t help you
This is the sharpest fact on the page, and the one no competitor has written. The nearest DMV buildings to Crescent City are in Oregon — and none of them can do any California DMV business at all. Brookings, Oregon is 20.1 miles away in a straight line, about 25 road miles north on US 101. Grants Pass, Oregon is 64.2 miles away in a straight line, about 83 road miles east on US 199, a drive of about one hour and 44 minutes nonstop. Both are closer than Eureka, the nearest California DMV office, at 67.0 miles in a straight line. A Crescent City reader who searches “nearest DMV” and drives to the closest building will end up in Oregon, where no California license, no California registration, no California title, and no California driving test can be done. Oregon DMV offices serve Oregon.
The page says this in the first sections, not buried in a footnote, because it is the single most expensive mistake a reader can make: a 25-mile drive to Brookings that buys nothing, or an 83-mile drive to Grants Pass that buys nothing. The honest frame is the one to carry through the whole page: the closest DMV building is in Oregon; the closest DMV that can help you is Eureka, 67.0 miles south on US 101. Medford, Oregon is 78.1 miles away in a straight line — also closer than some California offices, and equally useless for California business. The alternatives table in section 11 lists the Oregon offices with their addresses and hours so you can see how close they are — and marks them, in the same row, as not alternates.
Whether Brookings even has an Oregon DMV office was not verified for this page, and the page does not list it as an office of any kind — the 20.1-mile figure is the distance to the town, not to a counter. Grants Pass and Medford are verified Oregon DMV offices (162 NE Beacon Drive, Grants Pass, OR 97526, open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; 987 Medford Center, Medford, OR, the same hours), and both are real, staffed offices that simply belong to the wrong state for a California transaction. That is what makes the trap so convincing: the buildings are real, the hours are real, and the drive is shorter than the drive to Eureka. Everything about them looks like an answer except the jurisdiction.
The same state-line rule applies in the other direction, and it is worth stating for the Oregonians who move south. If you move from Oregon to California, you cannot renew a California license, register a California vehicle, or take a California driving test at the Grants Pass or Medford office. New California residents have the same 10-day license deadline and 20-day vehicle registration deadline as everyone else (see our out-of-state license transfer guide), and the only office in Del Norte County that can start that process is the Crescent City office on its two open days — or Eureka, or Yreka, on their open days. The Grants Pass office is 83 road miles away and cannot help; the Crescent City office is in town and is open Tuesday and Thursday.
There is one more state-line confusion to clear up before it costs anyone a trip, and it is not Oregon at all: Florida. “Crescent City” is also a city in Florida, and Florida DMV results sit inside the California search results for this office — on countyoffice.org, on dmvappointments.org, and on dmvroadtestroutes.com. The Florida Crescent City is at 115 North Summit Street, Crescent City, FL 32112, about 3,000 miles away, and its hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm) are Florida hours, not California hours. If a listing gives you a Florida address or Florida hours for a “Crescent City DMV,” you are reading the wrong city. This page is the California office, in Del Norte County, at 1475 Parkway Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531.
3Address — Parkway Drive, and the three wrong hours to ignore
The Crescent City DMV office is at 1475 Parkway Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531, just off US 101 at the north end of town. The address is confirmed three ways: the DMV’s own Crescent City field-office page prints “1475 Parkway Drive”; the DMV’s place data gives the same street at coordinates 41.771797, −124.184528; and the DMV’s structured office data (wp-json record 3520) carries street “1475 Parkway Drive,” city Crescent City, zip 95531. The reference site dmvca.info abbreviates it “1475 Pkwy Dr” — the same address, the same building. There is one DMV office in Del Norte County, and this is it.
Parkway Drive is the street the office sits on, and it is also the name of the bus route that serves it — Redwood Coast Transit Route 1, the Crescent City Parkway / El Dorado route, runs along the Parkway corridor on weekdays (see section 12). The office is on the north side of town, reached from US 101; there is no second entrance, no second address, and no “old” address still in circulation that this page needs to correct, which is itself unusual in this series — most offices in this track carry at least one stale address in the aggregators. The address errors for Crescent City are not about the street. They are about the hours, and they are worse.
Three wrong hours are in circulation, and the page names all three, because the reader who trusts any of them drives to a closed office. The worst is the DMV’s own place data, which prints “Monday–Friday 10:00 AM–5:01 PM” for this office — wrong on both halves, wrong days and wrong times. Crescent City is open Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the place-data listing tells readers the office is open five days a week starting at 10:00 am. It is the single most damaging error in the search results, because it is the DMV’s own data feed and it contradicts the DMV’s own office page, which shows the calendar correctly. If your phone or your maps app says Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 5:01, do not trust it: the office page’s calendar for November 1–14, 2026 shows Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and every other day closed, and the DMV’s structured office data says the same.
The second wrong hours come from countyoffice.org, which conflates California and Florida on a single page: it prints the correct California address, 1475 Parkway Drive, and then gives Florida hours — Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm — for a Florida office at 115 Summit Street. The address is right and the hours belong to a different state. The third wrong figure is the generic one that haunts every two-day office in this series: listings that say “weekdays 8–5” or “Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm,” which are wrong for the same reason the place data is wrong — this office is open two days a week, and three of the five weekdays it is shut.
Two more numbers in circulation are wrong and worth naming, because they are the kind of figures a reader copies into a plan. The locator site dmvchangeofaddress.com prints “41 DMV field offices” on one page, “44” on another, and “over 170” on a third — the first two are both wrong, and the DMV’s own figure is about 170 offices statewide. And whereig.com prints a Del Norte County population of 27,812, which is wrong — the 2020 census and the Census Bureau QuickFacts both say 27,743. Neither figure changes the office’s hours, but both are a reminder of the rule this page follows throughout: a figure is printed only when it traces to a source that was checked, and the sources that were wrong are named as wrong rather than quietly dropped.
| What the listing says | What is true | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Address: 1475 Parkway Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531 | Correct — the office’s only address | DMV office page; DMV place data; DMV structured office data (record 3520) |
| Hours: Monday–Friday, 10:00 am–5:01 pm | Wrong — Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am–5:00 pm | DMV place data (wrong); DMV office-page calendar Nov 1–14, 2026 (correct) |
| Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–4:30 pm | Wrong — those are Florida hours for the Florida Crescent City | countyoffice.org (California/Florida conflation) |
| Hours: weekdays 8:00 am–5:00 pm | Wrong — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are closed | Generic aggregator listings; DMV office-page calendar (correct) |
| Del Norte County population 27,812 | Wrong — 27,743 at the 2020 census | whereig.com (wrong); 2020 census and Census Bureau QuickFacts (correct) |
| “41” or “44” DMV field offices in California | Wrong — about 170 field offices statewide | dmvchangeofaddress.com (contradictory); DMV’s own figure |
4Hours — two days a week, and the Veterans Day week
The Crescent City DMV office is open Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closed Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There is no lunch closure on open days — each open day is one continuous 8:00 am to 5:00 pm slot. The hours below are the DMV’s own calendar for the two weeks it publishes, re-read on November 8, 2026, and they agree with the DMV’s structured office data and with the full-week table on the per-office reference.
| Day | Hours | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Closed | The nearest open office on Mondays is Yreka — see section 11 |
| Tuesday | 8:00 am – 5:00 pm | Open — one of two open days in the week; arrive early, the book fills |
| Wednesday | Closed | Closed even though most California offices open at 9:00 am on Wednesdays |
| Thursday | 8:00 am – 5:00 pm | Open — the second of two open days; Garberville is open Thursdays too |
| Friday | Closed | The nearest open office on Fridays is Yreka — see section 11 |
| Saturday | Closed | No DMV field office in the county is open on Saturday |
| Sunday | Closed | — |
The week of November 9–13, 2026 is the week to plan around, because it is the narrowest week of the year for this office. The office is open Tuesday November 10 and Thursday November 12 only, and Closed Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day — every DMV field office in California is closed that day, and the official Crescent City calendar shows November 11 as closed (it would be closed on a Wednesday in any case). Monday November 9 and Friday November 13 are closed as usual. So in the week of November 9, Crescent City is open two days out of seven, and a reader who misses both of them waits until the following Tuesday — and the following week is no wider.
The calendar behind that paragraph is the DMV’s own two-week view, re-read live on November 8, 2026: Sunday November 1 closed, Monday November 2 closed, Tuesday November 3 open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday November 4 closed, Thursday November 5 open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday November 6 closed, Saturday November 7 closed, Sunday November 8 closed, Monday November 9 closed, Tuesday November 10 open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday November 11 closed, Thursday November 12 open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday November 13 closed, Saturday November 14 closed. Fourteen days, four open days, and the pattern never varies: Tuesday, Thursday, Tuesday, Thursday. The official page also carries the statewide banner: “All DMV field offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.” For Crescent City the holiday costs nothing extra — the office is closed on Wednesdays anyway — but the week still loses its middle day, and the two open days are the whole week.
Thanksgiving week is tighter still, and it is the week after next, so it is worth planning now. The DMV’s official holidays page, re-checked on November 8, 2026, lists Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 – Thanksgiving, and Friday, December 25 – Christmas Day. Thursday November 26 is one of Crescent City’s two open days, so the office is closed for Thanksgiving on a day it would otherwise be open; Friday November 27 is a day it is closed in any case. In the week of November 23–27, 2026, the Crescent City office is open exactly once: Tuesday November 24. Christmas Day, Friday December 25, is a day the office is closed in any case, so the Christmas week keeps its normal Tuesday and Thursday. The rule to carry is simple: a holiday that lands on a Tuesday or a Thursday takes one of the two open days away, and a holiday that lands on any other day changes nothing.
Saturday is never an open day here, and the page says so plainly because the question is asked constantly. No California DMV field office is open on Saturday as a matter of routine, and Crescent City is no exception: the calendar shows Saturday closed in both weeks it publishes, and there is no Saturday pilot, no Saturday appointment, and no Saturday walk-in at this office. The same applies to every other office in Del Norte County, because there is no other office in Del Norte County. A Saturday errand has three honest options: do it online at dmv.ca.gov, do it at the Eureka kiosk if it is a kiosk transaction, or wait for Tuesday.
5Services at this office
The Crescent City office offers eight services, and the list below is the DMV’s own “Services Provided” list from the official office page, re-read on November 8, 2026. The list matters because it is the test for the two absences that define this office: “Self Service Terminals” is not on it, which is how the page knows there is no kiosk (see section 9), and there is no separate commercial-testing service on it, which is one of the two DMV-side signals behind the no-CDL finding (see section 7).
| Service | At this office | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing Services | Yes | Driver’s license and ID card applications, renewals that require an in-person visit, and first-time REAL ID |
| Testing | Yes | Behind-the-wheel, motorcycle skills, and written knowledge tests — no CDL test (section 7) |
| Title Transfers | Yes | Transferring a vehicle title into your name, including private-party sales |
| Registration | Yes | Registration transactions that require a counter visit — routine renewals do not (section 9) |
| Plates, Permits, & Placards | Yes | License plates, permits, and disabled-person placards |
| Replace Lost/Stolen/Damaged | Yes | Replacement licenses, ID cards, and plates — in person, on the office’s open days |
| Records | Yes | Driver and vehicle records that require a counter visit — routine record requests do not (section 9) |
| Request miscellaneous original documents | Yes | Original documents the DMV issues that are not covered by the seven categories above |
Payments at this office are cash, check, credit card, debit card, digital wallet, and money order — the DMV’s own “Payments Accepted” text on the official page: “DMV field offices accept Cash, Check, Credit Card, Debit Card, Digital Wallet, and Money order.” That is the full list, and it is the same list the DMV prints for its field offices statewide. The page prints no fee amount of any kind, following the office-page policy used across this track: fees change, and a stale fee on a page that is otherwise verified is worse than no fee at all. Confirm the current fee for your transaction on dmv.ca.gov before your visit.
Three transactions deserve a warning because readers assume they are counter jobs and they are not. Registration renewals, license and ID renewals (unless your renewal notice says an in-person visit is required), driver and vehicle records, and replacement licenses get no counter service at this office — or at any California field office, as a matter of statewide policy. They are done online, at a kiosk, by mail, or through a partner. That is the reason section 9 exists: if your errand is one of those four, do not drive to Parkway Drive on a Tuesday and join the counter line, because the counter will send you back to the same online service you could have used from home. The counter is for the transactions that need it — licenses, ID cards, REAL ID, tests, title transfers, and plates, permits, and placards.
6Appointments: how to book, what needs one, and walk-ins
Book on dmv.ca.gov, or call 1-800-777-0133. There are two appointment types in California, and mixing them up is the most common booking mistake on this site: a field office appointment for license, ID card, REAL ID, registration, and title work, and a separate drive test appointment for the behind-the-wheel exam. They are separate tracks with separate availability calendars, and a field office appointment does not book you a drive test. Booking is free — appointments on dmv.ca.gov cost nothing, and any site that charges you to book a DMV appointment is charging you for something the DMV gives away.
An appointment is recommended, not required, for most counter business at Crescent City — except the behind-the-wheel test, which is appointment-only, with no walk-in drive test. The recommendation matters more here than at a five-day office, because the book is only eighteen hours a week: two open days, and every appointment slot in those two days is a slot that cannot be moved to Wednesday. If your errand needs a counter — a first-time license, a first-time REAL ID, a title transfer, a test — book it before you drive. If your errand is a renewal or a record, do not book at all: do it online, at the Eureka kiosk, or by mail, and save the Tuesday or Thursday slot for someone whose errand needs the counter.
Walk-ins work through Get in Line, the DMV’s same-day queue. The pattern was verified live on this site on November 4, 2026, through the DMV’s own Service Advisor flow, and confirmed by a second source on November 6, 2026: the queue opens ten minutes before the office and closes at 4:00 pm — so at Crescent City, with its 8:00 am open, the queue runs 7:50 am to 4:00 pm on the office’s open days, Tuesday and Thursday. Join the queue when it opens, watch your place, and come in when your number is called. The queue does not create appointments for the behind-the-wheel test, and it does not open on days the office is closed — there is no Monday queue, no Wednesday queue, no Friday queue, and no Saturday queue at this office.
Two claims about walk-ins that circulate online are wrong, and both are worth naming because they change how readers plan. The first is that walk-ins ended during the pandemic and never came back — that is wrong; walk-ins exist, through Get in Line, at this office on its open days. The second is the reverse: that you can walk in and take a driving test the same day — that is also wrong; the behind-the-wheel test is appointment-only, and no walk-in drive test exists. The honest middle is the one this page prints: walk in for counter business through the queue, book ahead for the drive test, and never plan a same-day test.
The phone number is 1-800-777-0133, and it is the only number. No office-direct number is published for Crescent City — no phone number of any kind appears on the official Crescent City page HTML at all, which was checked on November 8, 2026, and the DMV’s place data carries the same statewide number, +1 800-777-0133. The automated line runs around the clock; representatives are available Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. If a listing gives you a different number for this office, it is not the DMV’s number for this office.
7Driving tests at Crescent City: drive, motorcycle, written — and the CDL question
The Crescent City office offers three of the four test types: the behind-the-wheel drive test, the motorcycle skills test, and the written knowledge test. The fourth — the commercial driving test, the CDL test — is the one this section has to be careful about, because the sources disagree, and the page resolves the disagreement in the reader’s favour by saying what is verified, what is not, and where to go instead.
| Test | At this office | How to book |
|---|---|---|
| Behind-the-wheel drive test | Yes | Appointment-only — book on dmv.ca.gov or call 1-800-777-0133; no walk-in drive test |
| Motorcycle skills test | Yes | Appointment — the DMV’s own locations list carries Crescent City under motorcycle driving test |
| Written knowledge test | Yes | At the office — not offered after 4:30 pm anywhere in California |
| Commercial driving test (CDL) | No — not verified here | Do not travel for a CDL test here; the nearest confirmed CDL test site is Eureka |
The three verified tests are confirmed two ways each. The behind-the-wheel test, the motorcycle test, and the written test are all on the office’s own “Testing” service, and the motorcycle test is confirmed a second time by the DMV’s own locations list, which carries Crescent City under motorcycle driving test. The written test carries the statewide rule that applies everywhere in California: written and knowledge tests are not offered after 4:30 pm, so a 4:00 pm arrival for a written test at an office that closes at 5:00 pm is already too late to start one. The behind-the-wheel test is appointment-only everywhere in California, and Crescent City is no exception — the appointment is booked through the separate drive-test track, not the field-office track, and the test itself is taken at the office on the day you booked.
The CDL question is where the page has to show its work, because one source says yes and two DMV-side sources say no, and the honest answer is no until the DMV says otherwise. The reference site dmvca.info lists a CDL test for Crescent City, verified June 5, 2026 — that is the one source in favour. Against it, the DMV’s own structured office data for this office (record 3520) carries service tags for the behind-the-wheel test, the motorcycle test, and the written test, and no commercial-driving-test tag — while the same DMV data for Eureka does carry the commercial tag. And the DMV’s own “Driving Test Sites” handbook page, which lists the 29 offices where a noncommercial Class A or Class B driving test can be booked by phone at 1-800-777-0133 — Arleta, Bakersfield, Bishop, Capitola, Compton, El Centro, Escondido, Eureka, Fremont, Fresno, Fullerton, Lancaster, Modesto, Montebello, Oakland-Coliseum, Rancho San Diego, Redding, Salinas, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Santa Teresa, Stockton, Torrance, Ukiah, Vallejo, Ventura, Visalia, West Sacramento, and Yuba City — does not include Crescent City. Two DMV-side signals against, one third-party source for, and no “commercial” anywhere in the official office page’s own text. The page therefore says plainly: no CDL test at Crescent City. If you need a commercial test, the nearest confirmed CDL test site is Eureka, 67.0 miles away in a straight line on US 101, which is on the DMV’s phone-booking list and carries the commercial tag. Call 1-800-777-0133 before you travel for any commercial test, because CDL skills tests are booked by phone, not online.
That finding is also the reason the page does not repeat the dmvca.info chip as fact, and does not print the permit-test question count that one driving-education site prints for Del Norte County. Question counts are a banned topic on this site — they are never printed as fact, for any office — and the DMV publishes no test route for any office, so this page prints no route either. What the page does print is the practical sequence: pass the written test first, book the behind-the-wheel test through the drive-test track, and arrive with the vehicle, the permit, and the documents the test requires. New drivers and teens should read our teen permit practice guide and our learners permit guide before booking, and new California residents should read the out-of-state license transfer guide — a valid out-of-state license waives the behind-the-wheel test, but it does not waive the knowledge test.
8REAL ID at Crescent City
REAL ID is offered at the Crescent City office, and a first-time REAL ID is an in-person visit with original documents — that is the statewide rule, and it applies here exactly as it applies everywhere in California. The office’s own service list carries Licensing Services, which is the service a REAL ID application sits under, and the reference data confirms the REAL ID chip for this office. What the page will not do is repeat the stale dates that circulate about REAL ID enforcement: the enforcement date that matters is the one the DMV and the Transportation Security Administration publish, and the page’s rule is to confirm it on dmv.ca.gov before your visit rather than to print a date that has already moved once.
The practical consequence of the two-day schedule is sharper for REAL ID than for any other counter transaction, because a first-time REAL ID cannot be done online, cannot be done at a kiosk, and cannot be done by mail. It has to be done in person, at a field office, on a day the office is open — and this office is open two days a week. If you need a first-time REAL ID in Del Norte County, your options are Tuesday or Thursday at 1475 Parkway Drive, or the Eureka office’s four open days, or the Yreka office’s three open days. There is no Saturday REAL ID appointment at this office, and there is no walk-in REAL ID that skips the document check. Bring originals only — no photocopies — and bring the full document set the DMV lists for a REAL ID: proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, and two proofs of California residency. The document checklist on this site walks through the full list, and the REAL ID appointment guide covers the in-person rule and the booking track in detail.
One more REAL ID fact belongs here because it is the question readers ask after they have the card: a REAL ID issued in another state does not transfer to California. If you move to California from Oregon — or from any other state — you apply for a California REAL ID as a first-time applicant, in person, with originals, at a California field office. The Grants Pass office cannot issue you a California REAL ID, and neither can any Oregon office. The Crescent City office can, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and so can Eureka and Yreka on their open days.
9No kiosk — and how to skip the trip entirely
There is no self-service kiosk at the Crescent City DMV office, and there is no DMV kiosk verified anywhere in Del Norte County. The finding is confirmed two ways: “Self Service Terminals” is not on the DMV’s own eight-item services list for this office, and the DMV’s kiosk page for this office — /portal/kiosk/crescent-city-field-office/ — returns a 404. The same two checks were run for Yreka and Garberville, and both are also kiosk-free; Eureka is the exception in the region, and its kiosk page returns a 200 and its office page carries the kiosk badge. The nearest verified kiosk is inside the Eureka office, 67.0 miles away in a straight line on US 101.
That absence matters because the kiosk is the fastest way to finish the four transactions that get no counter service: registration renewals, license and ID renewals (unless your notice says in person), driver and vehicle records, and replacement licenses. At an office with a kiosk, those four take minutes at a terminal. At Crescent City, they take a drive to Eureka, or they take the online service, or they take the mail. The table below is the honest version of the choice, and it is the table to read before you decide whether the trip to Parkway Drive is the trip you need.
| Transaction | At Crescent City counter | Instead, do this |
|---|---|---|
| Registration renewal | No counter service | Online at dmv.ca.gov, or at the Eureka kiosk (67.0 miles, straight-line) |
| License / ID renewal | No counter service, unless your notice says in person | Online at dmv.ca.gov, or at the Eureka kiosk; in person at Crescent City only if your notice requires it |
| Driver / vehicle record | No counter service | Online at dmv.ca.gov, or by mail |
| Replacement license / ID | No counter service | Online at dmv.ca.gov, or at the Eureka kiosk |
| First-time license / ID | Yes — in person, Tue/Thu | Book a field office appointment on dmv.ca.gov |
| First-time REAL ID | Yes — in person, Tue/Thu, originals only | Book a field office appointment on dmv.ca.gov |
| Behind-the-wheel test | Yes — appointment-only | Book a drive test appointment on dmv.ca.gov |
| Title transfer | Yes — in person, Tue/Thu | Book a field office appointment on dmv.ca.gov |
No DMV partner business is listed on the official Crescent City page either. The nearby-locations block on the office page renders as a map embed with no partner entries in the fetched HTML, re-read on November 8, 2026 — a verified absence, not a missing lookup. For contrast, the official Ridgecrest page does list a partner, so the absence here is a fact about this office, not a gap in the research. Do not invent a Crescent City partner, and do not pay a business that claims to be one unless it appears on the DMV’s own partner list. The same rule applies to AAA: no AAA branch was found in Crescent City, in branch searches or in the DMV’s participating-AAA material checked for this page, and the nearest AAA branch with DMV services was not verified, so this page names none. AAA members who need a registration renewal done at a branch must travel, and the page says so rather than guessing where.
The full kiosk picture for the region is on our DMV kiosk guide, which covers what kiosks handle, where they are, and which renewals and records can be finished without the counter line. For Crescent City readers the summary is one line: the kiosk you need is in Eureka, the online service is at dmv.ca.gov, and the counter on Parkway Drive is for the transactions that need a person.
10Del Norte County guide: which town, which office
Every town in Del Norte County uses the same office: Crescent City. That is the whole guide, and the table below is the proof of it — eight towns, all checked against the DMV’s own field-office pages on November 8, 2026, all returning 404. The distances are straight-line distances from Crescent City, computed from town coordinates, and they are printed so a reader can see how far the one office is from the town they live in — and so a reader who finds a listing for a “Smith River DMV” or a “Gasquet DMV” knows it is not a DMV field office.
| Town | Distance from Crescent City* | DMV field office? |
|---|---|---|
| Fort Dick | 6.7 miles | No — 404 on dmv.ca.gov; use Crescent City |
| Hiouchi | 9.8 miles | No — 404 on dmv.ca.gov; use Crescent City |
| Smith River | 11.4 miles | No — 404 on dmv.ca.gov; use Crescent City |
| Gasquet | 12.2 miles | No — 404 on dmv.ca.gov; use Crescent City |
| Requa | 16.4 miles | No — 404 on dmv.ca.gov; use Crescent City |
| Klamath | 18.5 miles | No — 404 on dmv.ca.gov; use Crescent City |
| Crescent City North | — | No — annexed into the city of Crescent City |
| Pelican Bay | — | No — the state prison; no DMV service of any kind there |
* Straight-line distances, computed from town coordinates. Road distances are longer.
The two towns that need a sentence each are Klamath and Gasquet, because they are the ones where a reader might reasonably expect an office and be wrong. Klamath sits 18.5 miles south of Crescent City on US 101, at the mouth of the Klamath River, and it is the town where State Route 169 leaves US 101 for Klamath Glen — a dead-end spur with an 18-mile unconstructed gap, not a through route, and never to be presented as one. There is no DMV office in Klamath. Gasquet sits 12.2 miles east on US 199, up the Smith River, and it is the town the Route 199 bus serves on weekdays — but there is no DMV office in Gasquet either. Both towns use Crescent City, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and both are close enough that the drive is short and the wait for the open day is the hard part.
Pelican Bay State Prison needs its own paragraph, because it is the one address in the county that a reader might mistake for a DMV location. Pelican Bay is at 5905 Lake Earl Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531, on about 275 acres, 13 miles from the Oregon/California border and within the Crescent City limits — and the city’s 2020 census population of 6,673 includes the prison’s inmates. There is no DMV service of any kind at the prison: no office, no kiosk, no partner, no visiting counter. Do not drive to Lake Earl Drive for DMV business. The office is on Parkway Drive, and it is open Tuesday and Thursday.
The county’s other institutions sit in Crescent City too, and they are the ones a DMV visit often pairs with. Del Norte Superior Court’s traffic division is at 450 H Street, Room 209, Crescent City, CA 95531, phone (707) 464-8115, with counter hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday and phone hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm — the sole Superior Court traffic division for all of Del Norte County, and the place a traffic ticket is handled rather than the DMV office. The California Highway Patrol’s Crescent City area office is at 1630 Summer Lane, Crescent City, CA 95531, phone (707) 218-2000, open Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and it patrols the Redwood Coast through Del Norte County. The court hours are from the court’s own General Information page with a secondary traffic-division source, so they are flagged as such; the CHP address and hours are from the CHP’s own area-office page.
11If Crescent City is closed or booked: the nearest alternatives
When Crescent City is closed — which is five days out of seven — or when its two open days are booked, the alternatives split into two groups, and the split is the whole point of this section: the California offices that can help you, and the Oregon offices that cannot. The table lists both groups together, in distance order, so the trap is visible in the same place as the answer. The Oregon rows are marked as not alternates, in the row itself, because a table that lists Grants Pass without the warning is a table that sends a reader to Oregon.
| Office | Address | Distance* | Hours | Kiosk | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brookings, OR (town) | — no Oregon DMV office verified here | 20.1 miles | — | — | Oregon — cannot do California DMV business |
| Grants Pass, OR DMV | 162 NE Beacon Dr, Grants Pass, OR 97526 | 64.2 miles | Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 8–5, Wed 10–5 | — | Oregon — cannot do California DMV business |
| Eureka | 2500 6th St, Eureka, CA 95501 | 67.0 miles | Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5 | Yes | Drive, motorcycle, written; CDL yes |
| Medford, OR DMV | 987 Medford Center, Medford, OR | 78.1 miles | Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 8–5, Wed 10–5 | — | Oregon — cannot do California DMV business |
| Yreka | 1848 Fort Jones Rd, Yreka, CA 96097 | 79.5 miles | Mon/Wed/Fri only (Wed 9–5) | No | Drive, motorcycle, written; no CDL |
| Garberville (Redway) | 1180 Evergreen Rd, Redway, CA 95560 | 115.8 miles | Tue/Thu only, 8–5 | No | Drive, motorcycle, written; no CDL |
| Redding | Redding, CA (town coordinates) | 124.1 miles | Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 8–5, Wed 9–5 † | — | Drive, motorcycle, written; CDL yes † |
* Straight-line distances, computed from the DMV’s place-data coordinates (Oregon offices from oregon.gov place data; Redding from town coordinates). Road distances are longer: Crescent City to Grants Pass is about 83 road miles (single source); Crescent City to Brookings is about 25 road miles (single source). No sourced road distance was found for Crescent City to Eureka — do not print one; straight-line 67.0 miles only. † Redding’s hours and CDL flag are the standard full-time pattern and were not re-verified for this page — confirm on dmv.ca.gov before you travel.
Eureka is the answer for almost every “Crescent City is closed” problem, and the page says why in one paragraph. It is the nearest California office at 67.0 miles in a straight line south on US 101, it is open four days a week — Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm — it has a kiosk inside, and it is the nearest confirmed CDL test site. Our Eureka DMV guide covers its hours, its services, the Garberville comparison, and its own alternatives, and it is the guide to read when Crescent City’s two days do not fit your week. One warning carries over from the Eureka guide itself: Eureka is Humboldt County’s only full-time office and its only CDL test site, so its drive-test slots go first — book early, and do not assume a same-week slot.
Yreka is the answer for the days Eureka’s pattern does not cover, and it is the interlock that makes the far north workable. Yreka is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only — Monday and Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm — which is the exact complement of Crescent City’s Tuesday and Thursday. Together the two offices cover every weekday: on Tuesdays and Thursdays Crescent City is open and Yreka is closed; on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays Yreka is open and Crescent City is closed. Neither is open on a weekend. Yreka has no kiosk and no CDL test, so CDL business still goes to Redding or Eureka, but for a license, a REAL ID, a title, or a drive test on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, Yreka is the office that is open. Our Yreka DMV guide covers its Mon/Wed/Fri hours and the Mt Shasta Tuesday/Thursday interlock in the same county. Garberville, at 115.8 miles in a straight line, keeps Crescent City’s own days — Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at 1180 Evergreen Road, Redway — so it is an alternative on the same two days, not on the other three, and it has no kiosk and no CDL test either.
Redding is the far inland alternate, 124.1 miles in a straight line via US 199 to I-5 south, and the page flags its row honestly: the distance is computed from town coordinates rather than office coordinates, and its hours and CDL flag are the standard full-time pattern rather than figures re-verified for this page. Confirm Redding on dmv.ca.gov before you travel. Weaverville, at 96.9 miles in a straight line, now has a live guide — see our Weaverville DMV guide.
12Best time to visit — what to bring — and getting there without a car
The best time to visit the Crescent City office is the earliest slot on a Tuesday or a Thursday, and the reason is arithmetic: two open days a week, eighteen hours of counter time, and a whole county plus the far-northern Humboldt towns sharing it. Book the first appointment of the day if you can, arrive with the documents already gathered, and do not plan a Tuesday-or-Thursday trip around a storm without a backup day — US 101 and US 199 both close in stretches in winter weather, and a missed Tuesday is a wait until Thursday, and a missed Thursday is a wait until the following Tuesday. The week of a holiday is worse: Thanksgiving week 2026 has a single open day, Tuesday November 24, and the week of Veterans Day has two. The day before and the day after a holiday are the busiest days at any DMV office, so plan a full week before or after a major holiday period whenever you can.
What to bring depends on the errand, and the table below is the short version. The long version is the document checklist on this site, and the rule that covers every row is the same: originals only, no photocopies, and the renewal notice or appointment confirmation in hand before you leave home.
| Errand | Bring | Note |
|---|---|---|
| First-time license / ID | Proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, two proofs of California residency, appointment confirmation | Originals only — see the document checklist for the full list |
| First-time REAL ID | Same document set as a first-time license, plus the REAL ID application | In person only; originals only; no photocopies |
| Behind-the-wheel test | Permit, appointment confirmation, registered and insured test vehicle | Appointment-only; the test is not offered after 4:30 pm for the written part |
| Title transfer | Signed title, bill of sale, odometer disclosure where required, smog certification where required, payment | Private-party sales need the seller’s signature on the title |
| Plates / placard | Registration, identification, and the application for the plate or placard | Disabled-person placards need the medical certification |
| Any counter visit | Appointment confirmation or Get in Line place, identification, payment (cash, check, card, debit, digital wallet, money order) | Confirm the current fee on dmv.ca.gov — no fee amount is printed on this page |
Getting there without a car is possible, and it is the Redwood Coast Transit Authority — RCTA — that makes it possible. Local routes 1 through 4 plus the 300 school tripper run inside Crescent City; Route 1, the Crescent City Parkway / El Dorado route, runs hourly on weekdays from 7:00 am to 5:55 pm, eleven 25-minute roundtrips, serving Safeway, Walmart, Sutter Coast Hospital, and the Del Norte County offices — and it runs along the Parkway corridor, which is the DMV’s street. The exact nearest stop to 1475 Parkway Drive was not verified for this page, so the page does not invent a stop name or a walking distance: Route 1 runs along Parkway Drive, and the stop list should be checked before you travel. Route 20 runs Smith River to Arcata, Monday to Saturday, and it is the bus to Eureka — the nearest California DMV office — for readers without a car. Route 199 runs Crescent City to Gasquet and Hiouchi on weekdays. RCTA connects with the Southwest Point bus to Medford in Crescent City, with Curry Public Transit at Smith River, and with Humboldt Transit and the North State Express in Eureka. The RCTA office is at 140 Williams Road, Crescent City, phone (707) 464-6400. There is no Sunday service on any RCTA route.
Fares are the one RCTA figure this page flags rather than prints flat. The RCTA fares page lists a local adult single fare of $1.50, with a local monthly pass at $35 and a county monthly pass at $55 — but the September 2025 agenda packet lists a local fare of $1.75, and the two figures conflict. The page prints $1.50, because the fares page is the live source, and flags the conflict here so a reader who is charged $1.75 knows why. Youth aged 5 to 18, seniors 65 and older, college students, veterans, and disabled riders travel free with an eligibility ID, and Dial-A-Ride is $2.00 with an ADA card and $6.00 for the general public, with passes sold on the bus and at the RCTA office. The free-fare grant that funded those free rides was dated through September 2025 in the agenda packet, and that date may be stale — the page does not print an expiry without a live check, and the current fares page is the source to confirm before travelling.
Driving to the office is straightforward and unforgiving in the same measure. The DMV sits on Parkway Drive, just off US 101 at the north end of town; US 101 is the Redwood Highway, the north–south corridor, and the only road south to Eureka; US 199 leaves town to the northeast for Grants Pass, Oregon, and it is the only road east out of the county — 79.74 miles end to end, from US 101 near Crescent City to I-5 in Grants Pass. There is no alternate road south to Eureka — US 101 is it — and no alternate road east — US 199 is it. State Route 197 near Hiouchi is the Gasquet and Hiouchi connector, and State Route 169 is a dead-end spur from US 101 near Klamath to Klamath Glen, with an 18-mile unconstructed gap — not a through route, and never to be used as one. In winter, US 199 climbs through the Siskiyou Mountains to Oregon and can close or require chains in storms, and US 101 is the year-round coastal corridor but closes in stretches for landslides and storms. Check Caltrans before a winter drive, and never plan a Tuesday-or-Thursday-only trip around a storm without a backup day.
Flying is the last option, and it is a thin one. Del Norte County Regional Airport — Jack McNamara Field (CEC) — is the local airport, with limited flights; that is a single-source figure and it is flagged as such. The nearest larger airport is Arcata-Eureka Airport (ACV), about 85 road miles south — also a single-source figure, also flagged. Neither airport changes the DMV facts, and neither is a reason to fly in for a DMV appointment: the office is open two days a week, and a flight that lands on a Monday buys a closed office.
The redwoods are the reason many readers are in Crescent City at all, and they belong in this section because they are the context a visitor needs, not because they change the DMV facts. Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is about nine miles east and northeast of Crescent City on US 199, 10,430 acres with 106 campsites and more than 18 miles of trails, the northernmost unit of the Redwood National and State Parks system, and the park’s headquarters is in Crescent City itself. A visitor who pairs a park trip with a DMV errand should pair them on a Tuesday or a Thursday, and should not assume the park’s presence means the town has a full-time office — it does not.
Driving schools are the last gap to close honestly. No in-person behind-the-wheel driving school was verified in Crescent City. The only verified option is Drivers Ed Direct’s DMV-approved online drivers-ed course, which serves Del Norte High School, Castle Rock, McCarthy Center and Community High School, Paragon and Avalon, and Foursquare Christian School students. A listing for “Del Norte Driving School” at 5855 North Bank Road, Crescent City, appears in one directory only, with no website, no phone, and no DMV license number verified — and this page does not present it as a verified school. The nearest verified in-person school is Eureka Driving School, 1307 Union Street, Eureka, phone (707) 442-1355, open Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, which describes itself as Humboldt County’s only complete driving school and as licensed by the DMV to teach behind-the-wheel — the license number itself was not verified, so the page attributes the claim to the school and prints no license number. Two online traffic-violator schools list Crescent City addresses — Online Traffic Education and TrafficSchool.com, the second accepted by Del Norte County Superior Court for online traffic school — but they exist for masking a ticket after a citation, not for learning to drive, and the page keeps the two jobs separate. Their license numbers are printed by the schools themselves and were not verified on the DMV’s own lookup, so they are not printed here.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the address of the Crescent City DMV office?
1475 Parkway Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531, just off US 101 at the north end of town. The address is confirmed by the DMV’s own Crescent City field-office page, its place data, and its structured office data. This is the California Crescent City, in Del Norte County — not the Crescent City in Florida. There is only one DMV office in Del Norte County, and this is it.
What days is the Crescent City DMV open?
Tuesday and Thursday only, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The office is closed Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Do not trust listings that say “Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 5:01 pm” — that is the DMV’s own place data and it is wrong on both days and times — or listings that say “weekdays 8–5” or give Florida hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The DMV’s own office-page calendar for November 1–14, 2026 shows Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and every other day closed.
Is the Crescent City DMV open on Saturday?
No. The office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and no DMV field office in Del Norte County is open on Saturday, because there is no other DMV field office in Del Norte County. There is no Saturday pilot, no Saturday appointment, and no Saturday walk-in at this office. A Saturday errand has three honest options: do it online at dmv.ca.gov, do it at the Eureka kiosk if it is a kiosk transaction, or wait for Tuesday.
Do I need an appointment at the Crescent City DMV?
An appointment is recommended, not required, for most counter business — except the behind-the-wheel test, which is appointment-only. Book a field office appointment on dmv.ca.gov for licenses, ID cards, REAL ID, registration, and title work, and a separate drive test appointment for the behind-the-wheel exam. Booking is free. The recommendation matters more here than at a five-day office, because the book is only eighteen hours a week.
Can I walk into the Crescent City DMV without an appointment?
Yes, through Get in Line, the DMV’s same-day queue, which runs 7:50 am to 4:00 pm on the office’s open days, Tuesday and Thursday — the queue opens ten minutes before the 8:00 am open and closes at 4:00 pm. The queue does not create appointments for the behind-the-wheel test, and it does not open on days the office is closed. Walk-ins ended during the pandemic is a claim you will still read online, and it is wrong: walk-ins exist here, through the queue, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Does the Crescent City DMV do driving tests?
Yes, three of them: the behind-the-wheel drive test (appointment-only), the motorcycle skills test, and the written knowledge test (not offered after 4:30 pm anywhere in California). It does not offer a CDL test. One reference site lists a CDL test here, but the DMV’s own service data carries no commercial-driving-test tag for this office and the DMV’s own phone-booking list of 29 offices does not include Crescent City, so the page says plainly: no CDL test here. The nearest confirmed CDL test site is Eureka, 67.0 miles away in a straight line on US 101.
Can I get a REAL ID at the Crescent City DMV?
Yes. A first-time REAL ID is an in-person visit with original documents — proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, and two proofs of California residency — and it can only be done at a field office on a day the office is open, which here means Tuesday or Thursday. A REAL ID issued in another state does not transfer to California: if you move here from Oregon or anywhere else, you apply for a California REAL ID as a first-time applicant, in person, with originals.
Is there a DMV kiosk in Crescent City?
No. There is no self-service kiosk in the office — “Self Service Terminals” is not on the DMV’s own services list for this office, and the DMV’s kiosk page for this office returns a 404 — and no kiosk is verified anywhere in Del Norte County. The nearest verified kiosk is inside the Eureka office, 67.0 miles away in a straight line on US 101. Registration renewals, license and ID renewals, records, and replacement licenses are done online, at that kiosk, or by mail instead.
What is the phone number for the Crescent City DMV?
1-800-777-0133 only, the statewide DMV number. No office-direct number is published for Crescent City — no phone number of any kind appears on the official Crescent City page at all. The automated line runs around the clock; representatives are available Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. If a listing gives you a different number for this office, it is not the DMV’s number for this office.
Is the Crescent City DMV the only DMV office in Del Norte County?
Yes. Smith River, Fort Dick, Gasquet, Klamath, Requa, Hiouchi, Crescent City North, and Pelican Bay were all checked against the DMV’s own field-office pages on November 8, 2026, and every one returns a 404. Crescent City is also the county seat and the county’s only incorporated city — the courthouse, the county offices, and the county’s only DMV counter are all in the same town. The nearest alternatives are Eureka, Yreka, and Garberville, all in other counties, or the Oregon offices, which cannot do California business.
What is the closest DMV to Crescent City if this office is closed or booked?
The closest DMV building is in Oregon — Brookings is about 25 road miles north and Grants Pass about 83 road miles east — but neither can do any California DMV business, so neither counts. The closest office that can help you is Eureka, 67.0 miles away in a straight line south on US 101: open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a kiosk inside and a confirmed CDL test site. Yreka, 79.5 miles away in a straight line, is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only — the exact complement of Crescent City’s Tuesday and Thursday — and has no kiosk and no CDL test. No sourced road distance was found for Crescent City to Eureka, so the page prints the straight-line figure only.
Can I renew my vehicle registration at the Crescent City DMV?
Not at the counter. Registration renewals get no counter service at this office, or at any California field office as a matter of statewide policy. Do it online at dmv.ca.gov, at the Eureka kiosk, by mail, or through a DMV partner. The counter is for the transactions that need a person: first-time licenses and ID cards, first-time REAL ID, driving tests, title transfers, and plates, permits, and placards. Do not drive to Parkway Drive on a Tuesday for a renewal the counter will send you back to do online.

Book Before You Drive to Crescent City
Crescent City is open two days a week, Tuesday and Thursday, and it is the only DMV office in a county of 27,743 people spread across 1,230 square miles — and its drive-test slots are the scarcest appointments on the whole far north coast. Check the day, check the 8:00 am open, book on dmv.ca.gov before you drive, and do not drive to Oregon for California business — the nearest office that can help you is Eureka, 67.0 miles south on US 101. If your errand is a renewal or a record, use dmv.ca.gov or the mail instead of waiting in the counter line — there is no kiosk in the building, and the nearest one is 67.0 miles away in a straight line.
