Roseville DMV Office: Hours, Services & Appointment Guide

The DMV field office for Roseville and the south of Placer County — open five days a week, with a self-service kiosk inside the office, behind-the-wheel, motorcycle, and written tests, and REAL ID. It is one of three DMV field offices in Placer County, and the one in the county’s largest city. But check the rules before you book: simple renewals, records, and replacement licenses get no counter service at all, and there is no CDL test here. Independent guide, verified against dmv.ca.gov.

TL;DR

  • Address: 7200 Galilee Rd, Roseville, CA 95678 — on Galilee Road in the Galleria-area commercial district, just off Interstate 80. The AAA branches and registration partners nearby are DMV partners, not the field office — do not confuse their addresses with this one.
  • Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm; Wednesday 9:00 am–5:00 pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday, every week. This is a full-time office — the largest-city office in Placer County.
  • This week: in the week of November 9–13, 2026, the office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday — and closed Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day, a state holiday when every California DMV field office is closed.
  • Phone: 1-800-777-0133, the statewide DMV number. No office-direct number is published for Roseville.
  • Appointments: recommended for faster service; behind-the-wheel driving tests are appointment-only. Book at dmv.ca.gov or call 1-800-777-0133. Booking is free. Same-day check-in (Get in Line) runs 7:50 am–4:00 pm, Wednesdays 8:50 am–4:00 pm.
  • Kiosk here: yes — this office has a self-service DMV Now kiosk inside, so registration renewals and record requests can be done at the office without a counter visit. It is one of the two Placer County field offices with a kiosk (Roseville and Rocklin); Auburn has none.
  • No CDL test here: Roseville does not offer CDL road tests. Neither do Rocklin or Auburn. The nearest CDL test site to the Roseville corridor is Yuba City.
  • The county picture: Placer County has THREE DMV field offices, not one — Roseville (7200 Galilee Rd, full-time, kiosk), Rocklin (5245 South Grove, full-time, kiosk), and Auburn (11722 Enterprise Dr, the county seat, full-time, no kiosk). Any office serves any Californian; pick by the service you need, not by the town line.
  • Skip the counter: registration renewals, driver and vehicle records, and replacement licenses get no counter service — use dmv.ca.gov online services, the kiosk inside this office, a partner like the AAA Roseville branches, or mail. The kiosk is the reason a renewal trip here still works, even though the counter will not take it.
  • Tests here: behind-the-wheel, motorcycle skills test, and the written knowledge test. Knowledge tests are not given after 4:30 pm anywhere in California.
  • Saturday option: the DMV office is closed on Saturdays, but the AAA Roseville Galleria Branch (1161 Galeria Blvd) and the AAA Roseville South Branch (1850 Douglas Blvd) handle registration-type DMV services on Saturdays, 9:00 am–5:00 pm, for members only.

7200 Galilee Rd, Roseville, CA 95678
Placer County’s largest-city office — full-time office (Mon–Fri) with drive tests, REAL ID, and a kiosk inside, no CDL test

1Roseville’s largest-city office — and the three-office correction that matters most

If you live in Roseville, this is your DMV office — and it is a full-time one, in the busiest part of the county, which is the first thing this page has to tell you, because the rest of the county is not like this. The field office at 7200 Galilee Rd is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a 9:00 am open on Wednesdays, and it handles the full counter range the DMV lists for a field office: licensing, testing, title transfers, registration, plates, permits and placards, replacements, and records — plus a self-service kiosk inside the office, which is the ninth service on its list. Roseville is the most populous city in Placer County — 147,773 people at the 2020 census, first in the county and thirtieth in California, and the third-largest city in the Sacramento area, with a July 2025 estimate of 167,302 — and it is the county’s retail core: the Westfield Galleria at Roseville is the city’s main shopping center and the second-largest shopping mall in Northern California. The DMV office sits on Galilee Road in that same Galleria-area commercial district, just off Interstate 80, which is why its appointment book carries the south county’s traffic as well as Roseville’s own.

But the most important paragraph on this page is a correction, and it is the reason this page exists in its present form. A common assumption — and the premise this page was originally planned around — is that Roseville is “the only DMV field office in Placer County” and therefore the nearest office for the whole county. That is wrong. Placer County has three DMV field offices, all verified on dmv.ca.gov on November 4, 2026: Roseville (7200 Galilee Rd, full-time, with a kiosk), Rocklin (5245 South Grove, full-time, with a kiosk), and Auburn (11722 Enterprise Dr, the county seat, full-time, no kiosk). Rocklin is only about four miles from the Roseville office in a straight line, so Roseville cannot be the nearest office for the whole county when its sister office is four miles away. Roseville is the county’s largest-city office, Rocklin is the county’s third office, four miles down the road, and Auburn is the county’s county-seat and foothill office. Any California DMV office serves any Californian — you are not tied to the one nearest your address — so the honest question is never “which office is mine” but “which office has what I need, on the day I can go.” That question is the subject of section 9.

The second most important paragraph is about the trips you do not need to make. The DMV’s own appointments page states that the DMV does not provide counter service for vehicle registration renewal, driver’s license or ID card renewal (unless your renewal notice specifies an in-person visit), driver and vehicle records, or replacement driver’s licenses. Those transactions “must be done online, at a DMV kiosk, with a DMV business partner, or by mail.” In Roseville that list bites less hard than it does in Auburn, because Roseville has a kiosk inside the office: for a renewal or a record, the answer is the kiosk in this very building, or online, or the AAA Roseville branches, or mail — not a wait in the counter line. If your task is a registration renewal or a record copy, do not book a counter appointment at all; use the kiosk. If it is a REAL ID, a first license, a drive test, or a title transfer, the office is the place — book it, and bring the documents in section 11.

Two more identity facts before you go anywhere. First, this office is in Roseville, California, in Placer County — not Roseville, Minnesota, or any other Roseville. Search results for “Roseville DMV” are California-clean, unlike the multi-state pollution that fills the results for some other city names, but one sentence here still keeps you from following the wrong map pin. Second, this page is an independent guide, not the DMV. We cannot book for you, we cannot see live slot availability, and we never charge for booking — booking on dmv.ca.gov is free, and any site charging a booking fee is not the DMV. Every office fact below — address, hours, services, payments, nearby offices, tests, kiosk, transit — was re-read on the official dmv.ca.gov pages on November 4, 2026, and cross-checked against a second source. Where a fact could not be verified, this page says so instead of printing a guess: no wait-time minutes, no review numbers, no fee amounts, no parking description, and no test route appear anywhere below.

2Address — Galilee Road, in the Galleria corridor just off Interstate 80

The Roseville DMV office is at 7200 Galilee Rd, Roseville, CA 95678. That address is confirmed five ways: the DMV’s own office page, the DMV’s own place data (which gives the same address and the coordinates 38.776347, −121.304727), the DMV’s kiosk locator, the independent dmvca.info location page, and the drivers-education guides that point Roseville teens to this office all agree on it. The office sits on Galilee Road in the Galleria-area commercial district, just off Interstate 80 in Roseville, in the south of Placer County. Interstate 80 runs through Roseville, and State Route 65 runs along the northern edge of the city, so the office is on the county’s main freeway corridor rather than tucked away on a side street.

Do not confuse the partners with the office. The DMV’s own Roseville page lists four nearby DMV partners, and two of them carry Roseville in their names — the AAA Roseville Galleria Branch at 1161 Galeria Blvd and the AAA Roseville South Branch at 1850 Douglas Blvd — plus Roseville Registration Services at 801 Riverside Ave and Padda Insurance & Registration Services on Antelope North Road. Those are businesses authorized by the DMV to handle certain registration services, often with much shorter waits, and they are not the field office: they cannot do licenses, ID cards, REAL ID, or any test. If your maps app offers more than one “Roseville DMV” pin, pick the one at 7200 Galilee Rd for the field office itself. Unlike the Auburn office, no ranking guide was found printing a wrong street address for Roseville — the address is consistent across every source checked — so this page does not need to correct a bad address, and it does not invent one to correct.

Parking. No source describes the office’s parking arrangements — not the lot size, not whether it is free, not the accessible spaces — so this page prints no parking claim at all. Check signage on arrival, as the independent guides advise. What is verifiable is the transit picture, which is in section 11, and the simple fact that the office is in a commercial district built around cars: most visitors drive, and two Roseville Transit bus routes serve the DMV on Galilee Road directly.

One more caution about maps: Roseville sits on Interstate 80, and the towns around it — Lincoln to the northwest, Citrus Heights and Antelope to the south, Granite Bay and Loomis to the east — have no DMV field office of their own. Lincoln, in particular, has no DMV field office at all; Roseville is its nearest one, about five to eight miles from Lincoln’s high schools in a straight line. If you are driving in from one of those towns, the office to aim for is Galilee Road, and the office to check on the day is Roseville itself, which is open all five weekdays.

3Hours — five days a week, Wednesday opens at nine, and the Veterans Day week

Roseville runs the DMV’s standard full-time pattern. The table below is the whole week, every week:

DayHours
Monday8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Tuesday8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Wednesday9:00 am – 5:00 pm (late open)
Thursday8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Friday8:00 am – 5:00 pm
SaturdayClosed
SundayClosed

These hours were read from the DMV’s own Roseville office page, which shows the week’s calendar day by day, and cross-checked against the DMV’s place data and dmvca.info, which lists Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm and Wednesday 9:00 am–5:00 pm. The Wednesday 9:00 am late open is the statewide pattern — the office opens an hour late on Wednesdays, just like the rest of the state. Rocklin and Auburn run the identical week, hour for hour, so the three Placer County offices open and close together; the difference between them is services, not hours.

Here is what the next two weeks actually look like, day by day, so nobody plans around a closed door:

DateDayStatus
November 2, 2026MondayOpen 8:00 am–5:00 pm

November 13, 2026FridayOpen 8:00 am–5:00 pm
November 14, 2026SaturdayClosed

One closure to put in your diary. Wednesday, November 11, 2026, the office is closed for Veterans Day, a state holiday, and all California field offices close on state holidays — the DMV’s own Roseville page carries a banner saying exactly that. Because November 11 is a Wednesday, the week of November 9–13 loses one of its five open days: the office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday that week, and closed on the Wednesday. Do not plan a November 11 visit, and do not assume the office is open that Wednesday just because it is a Wednesday. The office is closed on every state holiday, so if your visit falls on one, check the DMV holiday schedule first rather than driving to a locked door. Note also that written/knowledge tests are not offered after 4:30 pm anywhere in California, so a late-afternoon arrival cannot take the written test that day.

One more honesty note: the DMV publishes live wait times for every field office, including Roseville, on its current-field-office-wait-times page — but those are a live snapshot, not a stable figure, and they change through the day. This page therefore prints no wait-time number for Roseville. One statewide appointment guide quotes average waits of about ten minutes with an appointment and about thirty-three minutes without one, measured in October 2026 — but those are statewide averages from a single source, not Roseville figures, and this page does not print them as if they were. Any site that quotes a fixed wait time for this office is guessing.

4Services at this office

The DMV’s Roseville office page lists nine service groups — one more than Auburn, because Roseville has the kiosk. The table below is that list, with a plain-English note on what each one actually covers at the counter:

ServiceWhat it covers here
Licensing servicesFirst licenses, license renewals that require an in-person visit, and license changes
TestingBehind-the-wheel drive test, motorcycle skills test, written knowledge test — see section 6
Title transfersTransferring a vehicle title after a sale, gift, or inheritance
RegistrationFirst registrations and registration transactions that need the counter
Plates, permits & placardsLicense plates, permits, and disabled placards
Replace lost / stolen / damagedReplacements that require an in-person visit
RecordsDriver and vehicle record requests that need the counter (most record requests can be done at the kiosk or online instead)
Miscellaneous original documentsOriginal documents the DMV issues in person
Self Service TerminalsOffered at this office — Roseville has a self-service DMV Now kiosk inside; see section 8

REAL ID is offered here: a first-time REAL ID requires an in-person visit, and this office handles it (section 7). Payments accepted at the office are cash, check, credit card, debit card, digital wallet, and money order, per the DMV’s own office page. The office phone is the statewide DMV number, 1-800-777-0133 — no office-direct number is published for Roseville; the only phone numbers on the DMV’s Roseville page belong to nearby DMV partners, not to the field office itself. The automated line runs 24 hours a day; representatives are available Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

What is not on the list matters as much as what is. Routine registration renewals, routine license and ID renewals, most record requests, and most replacement licenses are not counter transactions at all (section 1). And unlike Auburn, Roseville has a kiosk to send you to instead — the DMV’s own office page carries the line “This office has a self-serve kiosk to avoid waiting in line,” and the DMV’s locator lists Roseville with a “Kiosk Available” tag. If your errand is a renewal or a record, the answer is the kiosk in this very building, dmv.ca.gov, a AAA branch, or mail — not a wait in the counter line. One listing to read carefully: a third-party offices map lists several “DMV” pins around Roseville that are actually partners — the AAA branches and the registration services on Riverside Avenue and Antelope North Road. Those businesses handle registration-type services; they are not the field office, and they cannot do licenses, REAL ID, or tests.

5Appointments: how to book, what needs one, and walk-ins

Book online at dmv.ca.gov/make-an-appointment or by phone at 1-800-777-0133. The DMV runs two appointment types: a field-office visit and a behind-the-wheel drive test. Booking is free — if any website asks you to pay to book a DMV appointment, it is not the DMV.

An appointment is recommended for faster service but is not required for most counter services. The DMV offers three ways into an office: start your application online first (which shortens the visit), join the same-day queue, or book a future date. The same-day path is Get in Line, the DMV’s electronic check-in: you join the office’s line online for that day when you did not book ahead. Get in Line is still live — it was never discontinued, and the QR Virtual Intake system rolled out in April 2026 is an addition to it, not a replacement. The queue hours, verified live on November 4, 2026 through the DMV’s own Service Advisor flow, are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 7:50 am–4:00 pm, and Wednesday 8:50 am–4:00 pm — the queue opens ten minutes before the office does. Older figures of 9:00 am–4:00 pm (Wednesdays 10:00 am) still circulate on third-party pages and on some of our own older pages; they are stale. Walk-ins are served through Get in Line, with appointment holders served first, so expect to wait longer without a booked appointment, and arrive early if you check in same-day. The one hard rule is the drive test: behind-the-wheel driving tests always require an appointment — there is no walk-in drive test.

Three practical tips that hold statewide and apply here. First, book as early as you can: Roseville is the south county’s largest-city office, so its appointment book carries the traffic of Roseville, Lincoln, Citrus Heights, Granite Bay, and Loomis as well as the city’s own, and drive-test slots are the scarcest appointments in the system. Checking back for cancellations is the standard way people pull a date forward. Second, do not book an appointment for a transaction that has no counter service: the DMV says appointments should not be made for registration renewal, license or ID renewal, record requests, or replacement licenses — those are online, kiosk, partner, or mail transactions, and booking one wastes one of the office’s slots and your own morning. In Roseville the kiosk inside the building is the fallback for exactly those transactions. Third, bring the right documents the first time — section 11 has the per-transaction checklists — because a missing document is the most common reason a visit ends in a second trip, and in a city where the office book fills fast, a second trip can mean another week of waiting. To change an appointment, use the DMV’s View/Cancel page: there is no reschedule button — you cancel the old appointment and book a new one, using your first name, last name, and telephone number. This page states no Roseville-specific wait time because none is published as a stable figure; the “best time” advice here is a statewide pattern, not a measured figure for this office.

6Driving tests at Roseville: behind-the-wheel, motorcycle, and written — and the CDL gap

Roseville is a test office, but a limited one. The office offers three test types:

TestAppointment?Notes
Behind-the-wheel drive testYes — appointment requiredThe standard license road test; bring a valid instruction permit, proof of insurance, the vehicle’s registration, and a safe, roadworthy vehicle
Motorcycle skills testYesOffered on site; the office is tagged for the motorcycle test on the independent location guide, and the DMV lists “Testing” among its services
Written knowledge testWalk-in or appointmentNot offered after 4:30 pm, anywhere in California
CDL road test—Not offered at Roseville. The office is tagged “No CDL test” on the independent location guide, and neither Rocklin nor Auburn offers it either. The nearest CDL test site to the Roseville corridor is Yuba City (section 10).

What to bring for the behind-the-wheel test. A valid instruction permit, proof of insurance for the test vehicle, the vehicle’s registration, and a vehicle that is safe and roadworthy. Before the drive begins, the examiner runs a pre-drive check of the vehicle’s controls: hand signals, lighting controls, windshield wipers, hazard lights, the defroster, gears, and the parking brake. If any of those do not work, the test does not start — check them the day before, not in the office car park. The drive itself is typically a short on-road route around the office, usually in the region of 10–20 minutes of driving statewide, though that is a statewide typical figure, not a measured Roseville route time; this page does not publish a Roseville test route, because the DMV does not publish one.

The test-route question, answered honestly. The most-asked Roseville-specific question on Reddit is about the drive-test route — people taking their first test at this office want to know the streets and the tips in advance. No published route exists, and this page will not invent one: the DMV does not publish test routes for any office, and a street-by-street route copied from a forum post would be a guess dressed up as a fact. What is verifiable is the preparation that actually decides the result: the pre-drive check above, a vehicle that is roadworthy, and the standard skills the test measures — turning, lane changes, parking, and safe merging, which the Roseville drivers-education guides list. Practice those on the streets around the Galleria corridor, where the office sits, and arrive early: test appointments do not mean you are seen at that exact minute, and a backlog in front of you can push your start later in the day.

Book early — the south-county book fills fast. Because Roseville is the largest-city office in the county, its test appointments carry the traffic of Roseville, Lincoln, Citrus Heights, Granite Bay, and Loomis, and a missed or failed test costs more time here than it does in a city with five offices. If you fail a test, there is a waiting period before you can retake it — check the current retake rule on dmv.ca.gov before you rebook, because this page does not print a retake interval that it has not re-verified. You can take your driving test at any California field office, not only the one nearest your home, which is exactly why the Roseville-versus-Rocklin-versus-Auburn choice matters: if Roseville’s next test slot is weeks out, check whether Rocklin has an earlier one — it offers the same three test types, it is about four miles away, and it has a kiosk too.

7REAL ID at Roseville

Yes — this office issues REAL ID. A first-time REAL ID requires an in-person visit: it cannot be done online or at a kiosk. You will need proof of identity, proof of your Social Security number, and two proofs of California residency — originals only, no photocopies. Check the exact document list on the DMV’s REAL ID page before your visit, because the acceptable documents have specific rules (for example, which residency documents count and how recent they must be), and this page does not improvise that list. Start the application online first if you can — it shortens the counter visit.

The context: REAL ID enforcement for domestic flights began May 7, 2025, so a standard license no longer gets you through a TSA checkpoint for a domestic flight — you need a REAL ID, a passport, or another TSA-accepted document. A REAL ID is not required to drive, and it is not required for a standard license renewal; it is only required if you want your license to double as federal identification. If your only goal is to keep driving, a standard renewal is enough. If you fly domestically and do not carry a passport, the REAL ID visit is worth the trip. Book it as a field-office appointment — a walk-in REAL ID visit risks a wasted trip, because the document check at the counter takes longer than a simple renewal — bring the documents above, and allow extra time. Note that the AAA Roseville branches cannot do REAL ID: licenses, ID cards, REAL ID, and tests are field-office-only, and the AAA branches handle vehicle paperwork, not people’s licenses.

The Saturday REAL ID event, and why it does not mean Saturdays are open. On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Roseville office opened from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm for REAL ID appointments only — appointments required, other DMV services not offered — under a DMV news release the local paper carried. That was a one-off event, not a change to the office’s hours: the office is closed every Saturday and Sunday, and no recurring Saturday service exists here. If you find that 2025 news article in search results, read it as history, not as current hours. If the DMV announces another one-off Saturday event, it will be on dmv.ca.gov, and this page will say so when it is verified — until then, do not drive to Galilee Road on a Saturday expecting a REAL ID appointment.

8Kiosk at Roseville — the AAA branches, the nearest retail kiosks, and how to skip the trip

Most Roseville DMV errands never need a counter or an appointment, and in the county’s largest city that matters more than it does in a small town, because the office book is the busiest in the county. Here are the alternatives, in the order most people should try them:

The nearest retail kiosks, specifically. Beyond the kiosk inside the field office itself, the closest retail DMV Now kiosks are Safeway Elkhorn in Sacramento (5345 Elkhorn Blvd, open Monday to Sunday 6:00 am to midnight), FoodMaxx in North Highlands (7477 Watt Ave, open Monday to Sunday 6:00 am to midnight), and Safeway Fair Oaks (5450 Dewey Dr, open Monday to Sunday 5:00 am to midnight). Kiosk hours and services change, so check the DMV’s kiosk finder before you drive: a kiosk prints registration stickers and handles renewals and records, but it cannot do a first REAL ID, a first license, or a drive test.

The Saturday question, answered properly. The Roseville field office is closed on Saturdays, and so are Rocklin and Auburn. The Saturday DMV options in Roseville itself are the two AAA branches: the Galleria branch and the South branch both run their DMV services on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm — for members only, and for vehicle paperwork only. If your Saturday errand is a registration renewal, a replacement sticker, or a title transfer, a AAA branch is the answer. If it is a license, a REAL ID, or a test, there is no Saturday option in Roseville: book a weekday appointment at the field office instead. The one exception ever made was the one-off Saturday REAL ID event of May 17, 2025 (section 7), which was appointment-only and REAL ID-only, and it has not been repeated as a regular service.

The honest summary: for a renewal or a record in Roseville, the kiosk inside the office is your counter, the AAA branches are your Saturday counter, and the internet is your fastest option of all. The DMV’s own appointments page says those transactions must be done online, at a kiosk, with a business partner, or by mail — and in Roseville, all four channels actually exist, in the same building or a short drive away. Do the transaction from home, from the kiosk, or from a AAA branch, and save the Galilee Road trip — and one of the office’s five open days — for the things that genuinely need a person: a first REAL ID, a first license, a drive test, or a title transfer.

9Placer County guide: Roseville, Rocklin, or Auburn — which office, which town

Here is the correction that matters most on this page. A common claim on other sites is that Roseville is “the only DMV field office in Placer County.” That is wrong. Placer County has three DMV field offices, all full-time, all on the same hours, and all verified on dmv.ca.gov on November 4, 2026. What is true, and what this page states instead, is that Roseville is the county’s largest-city office, Rocklin is the county’s third office, four miles down the road, and Auburn is the county’s county-seat and foothill office. Which office for which town. The valley half of the county — Roseville itself, Rocklin, Lincoln, and the fast-growing south of the county — uses Roseville or Rocklin, which are about four miles apart from each other and both carry kiosks. Lincoln has no DMV field office of its own, so Roseville is its nearest one; Citrus Heights, just over the county line to the south, is about six miles from the Roseville office in a straight line, and Roseville is its nearest California field office after Carmichael. The foothill half — Auburn itself, Colfax, Meadow Vista, Weimar, and the I-80 and State Route 49 corridor towns — uses Auburn; it is the only full-time office in the foothills, and Colfax has no DMV field office of its own, so Auburn is its nearest one. The practical rule is simple: if you live in the south of the county, Roseville or Rocklin is closer and has a kiosk; if you live in the foothills, Auburn is your office; and if Roseville’s appointment book is full, check Rocklin first — it is the closest office to Roseville, about four miles away in a straight line, with the same hours and the same test types, plus a kiosk. Grass Valley, over the county line in Nevada County, is the other foothill option: it is about 28 miles north of Auburn on State Route 49, about 40 minutes’ drive, but it is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only, so on a Tuesday or Thursday it is closed and Roseville or Auburn is the answer instead.

The Roseville-versus-Rocklin-versus-Auburn choice, honestly. For most transactions there is no “better” office here — there is only the office with the earlier appointment, or the office with the kiosk. All three offer the same eight service groups, the same three test types, REAL ID, and the same hours. The differences are two: Auburn has no kiosk, and Roseville and Rocklin do; and Roseville and Rocklin are the valley offices, while Auburn is the foothill office. Pick by the service first — if you need a kiosk, go to Roseville or Rocklin — then by the appointment book, then by the drive. And one line for the county-line question: the DMV office pages themselves do not print a county name, so if a maps app ever shows you a “Placer County DMV” that is not one of these three, check the street address against the table above before you drive.

10If Roseville is closed or booked: the nearest alternatives

For almost every south Placer County resident, the honest answer is “Roseville or Rocklin — whichever has the earlier appointment.” The out-of-county offices below are fallbacks for when both county offices in the valley are booked, or for a CDL test, and only one of them is genuinely practical for a CDL. Distances are straight-line distances from Roseville as published by the independent location guide, labelled as such — road distances are longer:

Alternative officeAddressDistance from RosevilleHoursNotes
Rocklin DMV5245 South Grove, Rocklin, CA 956774 miles straight-lineMon–Fri, same as RosevilleIn-county. The closest office to Roseville, with a kiosk, same test types, no CDL test. Check here first if Roseville is booked.
Folsom DMV323 E Bidwell St (Ste A), Folsom, CA 9563010.2 miles straight-lineMon–FriSacramento County, just over the line. Full-time, with a kiosk. A practical fallback when Roseville and Rocklin are both booked.
Carmichael DMV5209 North Ave, Carmichael, CA 9560810.6 miles straight-lineMon–FriSacramento County. Full-time, with a kiosk. Further than Folsom for most Roseville readers; listed for completeness.
Auburn DMV11722 Enterprise Dr, Auburn, CA 9560314.9 miles straight-lineMon–Fri, same as RosevilleIn-county. The county-seat office, up I-80 in the foothills. No kiosk, same test types, no CDL test.
Sacramento Broadway DMV4700 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 9582017.8 miles straight-lineMon–FriSacramento County. Full-time. Further than Folsom and Carmichael for most Roseville readers; listed for completeness.
Yuba City DMV1570 Poole Blvd, Yuba City, CANot stated — unverified from RosevilleMon–FriThe nearest CDL test site to the Roseville corridor. Go here for a CDL road test — not to Roseville, Rocklin, or Auburn, none of which offers one.

The pattern is clear: inside Placer County, the choice is Roseville, Rocklin, or Auburn, and the only reason to leave the county is a CDL test or a fully booked week. Sacramento’s offices are a drive nobody in Roseville needs to make for DMV business when Rocklin is four miles away and Folsom is ten — they are mentioned here once, to close the question, not as options. And one line for the state-line question: Nevada is next door, but a Nevada DMV office cannot do California business — a California license, REAL ID, or registration must be done at a California DMV.

11Best time to visit — what to bring — and getting there without a car

Best time. This page prints no Roseville-specific wait time, because none is published as a stable figure — the DMV’s own wait-times page is a live snapshot that changes through the day. What the independent location guide reports for this office is that early mornings (right at open) and mid-week afternoons are quietest, and the first and last week of the month, plus Mondays, are busiest — that is a statewide pattern, not a measured Roseville figure, and it is labelled as such. The practical advice is simpler: arrive right at opening, book an appointment rather than walking in, and do not plan a visit for a state holiday (section 3). Mondays are the busiest day at most offices, and Roseville’s book also carries the south county’s and Lincoln’s traffic, so a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday appointment is usually the easier one to get.

What to bring — by transaction.

TransactionBring
First REAL IDProof of identity, proof of Social Security number, two proofs of California residency — originals only (check the DMV’s REAL ID document list first)
Behind-the-wheel testValid instruction permit, proof of insurance for the test vehicle, the vehicle’s registration, a safe and roadworthy vehicle (pre-drive check: hand signals, lights, wipers, hazards, defroster, gears, parking brake)
First licenseProof of identity, proof of residency, and your completed application; minors need the driver-education and permit steps finished first
Title transferThe signed title, a bill of sale if you have one, and identification; report the transfer promptly (the DMV’s notice-of-transfer step protects the seller)
Registration (first registration)Title or proof of ownership, proof of insurance, and identification; smog certification where required
Renewal or replacement (in person)Your renewal notice if it specifies an in-person visit, identification, and payment (cash, check, card, digital wallet, or money order) — or use the kiosk inside this office instead

Just moved to Placer County? Two deadlines, and they are different — do not mix them up. You have 20 days to register your vehicle in California (Vehicle Code §4152.5) and 10 days to get a California driver’s license (Vehicle Code §12505(c)), both counted from the date you establish residency. New residents who need both should book the Roseville office early in that window — on any weekday — and bring the out-of-state title and registration with them. Both can be started online at dmv.ca.gov before you visit.

Getting there without a car. Unlike the foothill offices, Roseville has a real bus answer. Roseville Transit Routes M and S serve the Department of Motor Vehicles on Galilee Road directly, according to the City of Roseville’s own popular-destinations page; Route M runs hourly from 5:56 am to 9:52 pm. The wider hub is the Galleria Transfer Point, served by Routes A, B, E, M, and S plus the new Rapid Link express, a short distance from the office in the Galleria area. Arrow, the city’s on-demand service, travels anywhere within Roseville city limits, including on Sundays. If you are coming from further away, the Roseville Intermodal Station at 201 Pacific Street serves Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor trains (San Jose to Auburn) and Greyhound, and Roseville Transit Routes A, B, D, and L serve the station — from there, connect through Routes A or B to the Galleria Transfer Point, then Route M or S to the DMV. The Rapid Link express, a new weekday pilot, connects the Galleria transfer point to Lincoln and the Watt Avenue/I-80 light-rail station; it runs free during the pilot, with a two-dollar fare planned from March 2027.

Teens and the permit path. Roseville’s teens take the same thirty-hour online driver-education course as everywhere in California, then the permit test at a DMV office — and the nearest field office for Roseville’s public high schools is this one, between 1.7 and 4.0 miles away in a straight line. At fifteen and a half, with the driver-education certificate and a parent’s signature, a teen applies for the permit at the Roseville office, takes the written test there or online with parental permission, and after six months with the permit and at sixteen or older, takes the drive test. Lincoln’s teens use this office too: it is the nearest field office for Lincoln’s high schools as well, five to eight miles away in a straight line. Five driving schools hold an active California DMV license at an address inside Roseville city limits or with a Roseville mailing address, per the DMV list checked in October 2026.

12Why this office matters: the county’s retail-core DMV, and the errors the internet makes about it

Roseville is the county’s largest city and its retail core, which is why the DMV office here carries the south county’s traffic on its five open days. The city had 147,773 people at the 2020 census and an estimated 167,302 by July 2025, and it is a regional shopping destination: the Westfield Galleria at Roseville is the main shopping center and the second-largest mall in Northern California, and the office sits on Galilee Road in that same commercial corridor, just off Interstate 80. For the valley half of the county — Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Citrus Heights, Granite Bay, Loomis, and the fast-growing south — there is no other full-time DMV closer than Rocklin, four miles away. Roseville is the south county’s weekday DMV, every weekday, and the only one of the county’s three offices that pairs a kiosk with the county’s largest population.

That is also why the errors about this office matter more than they would for a small-town office. The search results for “Roseville DMV” mislead in three quiet ways. First, the May 2025 Saturday REAL ID event still ranks, and a reader who finds it can easily conclude the office opens on Saturdays — it does not, and the event was a one-off. Second, statewide wait-time averages get quoted as if they were Roseville figures — about ten minutes with an appointment, about thirty-three without — and they are not: they are a statewide snapshot from a single source, and no Roseville figure is published. Third, distances get misread: the “1.3 miles” figure on the drivers-education guides is the distance from a Roseville high school to the office, not the distance from the office to anywhere else, and the office’s own distances are the straight-line figures in section 10. The fix is boring and it is the whole point of this page: the correct address, 7200 Galilee Rd; the correct hours, Monday to Friday with a 9:00 am Wednesday open; the correct county picture, three offices, not one; the correct kiosk answer, yes, inside the office; and the correct Saturday answer, closed, with the AAA branches as the Saturday fallback. Check the address, check the day, book before you drive — and if your errand is a renewal, use the kiosk and do not wait in the counter line at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the address of the Roseville DMV office?

7200 Galilee Rd, Roseville, CA 95678, on Galilee Road in the Galleria-area commercial district just off Interstate 80. The AAA branches and registration partners nearby are DMV partners, not the field office — do not confuse their addresses with this one.

What are the Roseville DMV hours?

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, and Wednesday 9:00 am–5:00 pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday, every week, and closed on state holidays — including Wednesday, November 11, 2026 (Veterans Day).

Is the Roseville DMV open on Saturday?

No. The Roseville field office is closed every Saturday and Sunday, and so are the Rocklin and Auburn field offices. The Saturday DMV options in Roseville are the AAA Roseville Galleria Branch (1161 Galeria Blvd) and the AAA Roseville South Branch (1850 Douglas Blvd), which handle registration-type DMV services on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, for members only. Licenses, REAL ID, and tests have no Saturday option here. The office did open one Saturday — May 17, 2025 — for REAL ID appointments only; that was a one-off event, not a regular service.

Do I need an appointment at the Roseville DMV?

An appointment is recommended for faster service but is not required for most counter services; same-day check-in (Get in Line) is available, with the queue open 7:50 am–4:00 pm (Wednesdays 8:50 am–4:00 pm). The exception is the behind-the-wheel driving test, which is appointment-only. Book at dmv.ca.gov/make-an-appointment or call 1-800-777-0133. Booking is free. Do not book an appointment for a registration renewal, license or ID renewal, record request, or replacement license — those have no counter service and must be done online, at a kiosk, with a partner, or by mail.

Can I walk into the Roseville DMV without an appointment?

Yes, for most services, through Get in Line, the DMV’s same-day electronic check-in — but expect to wait, because appointment holders are served first. Arrive right at opening for the shortest lines. Get in Line is still live; the QR Virtual Intake system rolled out in April 2026 is an addition to it, not a replacement. This is a statewide pattern; no Roseville-specific wait time is published.

Does the Roseville DMV do driving tests?

Yes — behind-the-wheel tests, motorcycle skills tests, and written knowledge tests. Behind-the-wheel tests require an appointment, and knowledge tests are not given after 4:30 pm. It does NOT offer CDL road tests: Roseville is tagged “No CDL test,” and neither Rocklin nor Auburn offers one either. The nearest CDL test site to the Roseville corridor is Yuba City (1570 Poole Blvd). No test route is published for this office — the DMV does not publish routes — so prepare for the pre-drive check and the standard skills (turning, lane changes, parking, safe merging) instead of memorizing streets.

Can I get a REAL ID at the Roseville DMV?

Yes. A first-time REAL ID requires an in-person visit with proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, and two proofs of California residency (originals only). Check the exact document list on the DMV’s REAL ID page before your visit. REAL ID enforcement for domestic flights began May 7, 2025. Book an appointment — a walk-in REAL ID visit risks a wasted trip, because the document check takes longer than a simple renewal. The AAA Roseville branches cannot do REAL ID.

Is there a DMV kiosk at the Roseville DMV?

Yes — the Roseville field office has a self-service DMV Now kiosk inside, and the DMV’s own office page says “This office has a self-serve kiosk to avoid waiting in line.” Use it for registration renewals and record requests without a counter visit. Rocklin also has one; Auburn does not. Retail kiosks nearby include Safeway Elkhorn (5345 Elkhorn Blvd), FoodMaxx North Highlands (7477 Watt Ave), and Safeway Fair Oaks (5450 Dewey Dr). A kiosk cannot do a first REAL ID, a first license, or a drive test.

What is the phone number for the Roseville DMV?

1-800-777-0133 — the statewide DMV number. No office-direct number is published for Roseville; the only phone numbers on the DMV’s Roseville page belong to nearby DMV partners. The automated system is available 24 hours a day; live agents are available Monday through Friday during business hours.

Is the Roseville DMV the only DMV in Placer County?

No. Placer County has three DMV field offices: Roseville (7200 Galilee Rd, the largest-city office, full-time, with a kiosk), Rocklin (5245 South Grove, full-time, with a kiosk), and Auburn (11722 Enterprise Dr, the county seat, full-time, no kiosk). All three run the same hours and offer the same test types. Roseville and Rocklin serve the south of the county; Auburn is the foothill office.

What is the closest DMV to Roseville if this office is closed or booked?

Rocklin, about 4 miles away in a straight line, with the same hours and test types plus a kiosk on site. Folsom is about 10.2 miles away, Carmichael about 10.6 miles, and Auburn about 14.9 miles. Distances are straight-line figures; road distances are longer. If you need a CDL test, the nearest site is Yuba City (1570 Poole Blvd).

Can I renew my vehicle registration at the Roseville DMV?

You can, but you should not need a counter visit at all: registration renewals have no counter service and are handled online at dmv.ca.gov, at a DMV Now kiosk, with a DMV partner, or by mail. In Roseville the kiosk is inside the field office itself, so a renewal trip here still works — use the kiosk, not the counter line — or use the AAA Roseville Galleria Branch (1161 Galeria Blvd) or South Branch (1850 Douglas Blvd), members only, DMV services Mon–Fri 9:00 am–6:00 pm and Sat 9:00 am–5:00 pm.

Book Before You Drive to Roseville

Roseville is open five days a week, but its appointment book carries the whole south county — and its drive-test slots are the scarcest appointments in Placer County. Check the day, book on dmv.ca.gov before you drive, and if your errand is a renewal or a record, use the kiosk inside the office, the AAA branches, or dmv.ca.gov instead of waiting in the counter line.
