Fresno North DMV: Hours, Services & Appointment Guide

The DMV field office for north Fresno and the Central Valley — a full-service office on Blackstone Avenue, open five days a week, with a self-service kiosk inside, drive tests, and REAL ID. It is the office for Clovis, Madera, Reedley, and the Fresno County towns with no office of their own. But check which Fresno office you mean before you drive: Fresno has two full field offices, and this is the North one on Blackstone Avenue, not the downtown office on Olive Avenue. Wednesday opens at 9:00 am, not 8:00 am, and the office is closed Wednesday, November 11, 2026 for Veterans Day. Independent guide, verified against dmv.ca.gov.

TL;DR

  • Address: 6420 N Blackstone Avenue, Fresno, CA 93710 — the north Fresno field office, on Blackstone Avenue. Do not confuse it with the other Fresno field office at 655 W Olive Avenue, Fresno, CA 93728, or with the Fresno Industry Business Center, which shares this exact address but is a different listing.
  • Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm; Wednesday 9:00 am–5:00 pm; closed Saturday and Sunday. Closed Wednesday, November 11, 2026 for Veterans Day.
  • Opens at 8:00 am — not 7:00 am. The 7:00 am opening printed in some guides belongs to the Fresno Industry Business Center and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center, two different Fresno listings — not to this office.
  • Kiosk: yes, a self-service kiosk sits inside the office, plus three grocery-store kiosks nearby (Vons in Clovis, FoodMaxx in Fresno, Foods Co in Fresno).
  • Services: nine official categories — licensing, testing, title transfers, registration, plates/permits/placards, replacements, records, miscellaneous original documents, and self-service terminals.
  • No office in Selma, Sanger, or Kerman — and no “Fresno South” office. None of those has a dmv.ca.gov field-office page; their residents use Fresno North, the Olive Avenue office, Clovis, or Reedley.
  • Book first. Appointments are free on the official DMV scheduler, and a behind-the-wheel drive test is a separate appointment type from a general office visit. Routine renewals, records, and replacements get no counter service — use the online portal, a kiosk, a partner, or mail instead.

1Which Fresno DMV is this? — the two-office trap, and the same-address trap

Fresno is the county seat of Fresno County and the largest city in the Central Valley, and it is big enough to need two full DMV field offices plus a drive-test centre plus an Industry Business Center. Fresno North is the north-side office: 6420 N Blackstone Avenue, on Blackstone Avenue in north Fresno (ZIP 93710). The other full field office, “Fresno,” sits at 655 W Olive Avenue (ZIP 93728), closer to downtown. Its official page labels Fresno North a “Field Office” (not a kiosk, not a partner, not an Industry Business Center), and its services list is the full nine-category set — licensing, testing, title transfers, registration, plates/permits/placards, replacements, records, miscellaneous original documents, plus a self-service terminal on site. The finished point to carry through this whole page is simple: this is a full field office. That breadth matters because readers often assume a “North” branch is a smaller satellite; on the official listing, it is not — it offers the same nine categories as the Olive Avenue office.

The disambiguation paragraph is not optional decoration. It is the single most useful thing this page can do, for three reasons. First, our own site already publishes the Olive Avenue office at /dmv-offices/fresno/, so a reader landing on the wrong one of our two Fresno pages must be able to tell instantly which office they are reading about. Second, the two offices share a city name, a hours pattern, a services list, and a kiosk — the only things that separate them are the street address and the “North” in the name. Third, the competitors routinely merge, mislabel, or invent Fresno offices: one invents a downtown office on Kern Street that does not exist, another prints Saturday hours that do not exist, and a third’s comparison table treats “Fresno North” and “Fresno” as interchangeable rows. So here is the box, stated before anything else so no reader misses it:

Which Fresno DMV?AddressWhat it is
Fresno North (this page)6420 N Blackstone Avenue, Fresno, CA 93710Full field office — nine services, kiosk on site, Mon–Fri 8–5 (Wed 9–5)
Fresno (Olive Avenue)655 W Olive Avenue, Fresno, CA 93728Full field office — nine services, kiosk on site, same hours pattern. Our guide: Fresno DMV
Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center735 E North Ave, Fresno, CA 93725Testing and records ONLY — no licensing, no registration, no title transfers, no kiosk
Fresno IBC6420 North Blackstone Ave., Fresno, CA 93710Industry Business Center, NOT a field office — same address as Fresno North, different listing, different hours, no public services listed

Two warnings inside that table deserve emphasis. First, there is no DMV field office on Kern Street in downtown Fresno, despite what some appointment guides print — the downtown-area office is the Olive Avenue office at 655 W Olive Avenue, and any “downtown Fresno DMV” address other than Olive Avenue is unverified directory data. Second, the Fresno IBC shares Fresno North’s exact street address, 6420 N Blackstone Avenue, and that is the second trap on this page: same address, two different DMV listings, different hours, different purpose. A reader who sees “6420 N Blackstone” with 7 a.m. hours has found the IBC listing, not the field office. Section 9 gives the IBC its own clearly-labelled row so the two are never merged. Finally, a note on what this page is and is not. This is an independent guide, not the DMV. We cannot book for you, we cannot see live slot availability, and we never charge for booking — booking on dmv.ca.gov is free, and any site charging a booking fee is not the DMV. Every office fact below was re-read on the official dmv.ca.gov pages on November 5, 2026. Where a fact could not be verified on an official source, this page says so instead of printing a guess: no street-by-street drive-test route, no motorcycle-testing claim, no commercial-testing claim, no parking description, no wait-time minutes, and no review numbers appear anywhere below.

2Hours — five days a week, Wednesday opens at nine, and the Veterans Day closure

The weekly pattern is the standard California field-office pattern, confirmed on the office’s own dmv.ca.gov page, which prints a two-week calendar (November 1–14, 2026) showing the same pattern in both weeks — the strongest form of this verification, because it is not a single-day snapshot. The calendar and the standing weekly pattern agree exactly:

DayHours
Monday8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Tuesday8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Wednesday9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (opens one hour late)
Thursday8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday – SundayClosed

The Wednesday quirk is the detail that catches the most people: every other weekday opens at 8:00 AM, but Wednesday opens at 9:00 AM. Do not show up at 8:00 on a Wednesday expecting the early-bird advantage — you will wait outside for an hour. Weekends are closed, full stop, and this page states that explicitly rather than leaving the weekend blank, because a blank weekend reads as “unknown” and an explicit “closed” answers the single most-asked weekend question about this office. No California DMV field office lists Saturday hours as a rule, so be skeptical of any directory that claims a Saturday opening for Fresno North — and do not let a partner’s Saturday hours or a kiosk’s weekend hours be misread as a field-office Saturday opening. The three grocery kiosks in section 7 are listed as open every day including weekends; the field office is not, and confusing the two is exactly how a Saturday trip gets wasted.

Closed Wednesday, November 11, 2026 — Veterans Day: all DMV field offices are closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, in observance of Veterans Day. The closure is printed as a banner on the Fresno North office page and confirmed by its two-week calendar, which shows Wednesday, November 11 as closed — the only weekday closure in the November 1–14 window. If you are planning a visit for that week, book Thursday, November 12 or Friday, November 13 instead. This page prints only this verified closure; it does not print a generic holiday list, because no other holiday closure was verified for this office on dmv.ca.gov on November 5, 2026. Hours above are the regular weekly pattern as listed on dmv.ca.gov; check the office page before a holiday-week visit, because holiday closures override the regular pattern.

One more timing note that applies statewide: knowledge (written) tests are generally not offered after 4:30 PM, so do not arrive at the last hour of the day and expect to test. “Open until 5” does not mean “tested until 5.” State holidays can change hours too, so confirm on the official office page the day before you go — see our California DMV holidays guide for the general holiday pattern, and remember that holiday closures override the regular pattern above. The DMV page shows a rolling two-week calendar, not just a standing pattern, so the calendar on the day you check is the authority — this page’s table is the pattern as verified on November 5, 2026.

Two cautions about the hours, because both are traps a careless copy would fall into. First, the 7 a.m. trap, twice over: do not print a 7 a.m. opening for Fresno North. Two different Fresno listings open at 7 a.m. — the Fresno IBC (same address, section 9) and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center (section 9), both 7:00 am–4:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with an 8:00 am Wednesday start. A careless copy from the nearby list — where the IBC’s card sits first, directly above Clovis — is exactly how the error would happen. This page prints 8:00 am for Fresno North everywhere, and keeps the 7:00 am figure inside the IBC and drive-test-centre rows only. Second, a DMV display inconsistency in the nearby cards, flagged and not resolved: on the Fresno North page’s own nearby list, the IBC card and the drive-test-centre card both show their Wednesday row as “closed — closed,” while each listing’s OWN page shows Wednesday 8:00 am–4:00 pm open. The nearby cards even show the Clovis and Fresno (Olive Avenue) cards with a “Wed closed” row, while their own pages show Wednesday 9:00 am–5:00 pm open. This is a DMV display inconsistency in the nearby cards, not a closure. This page prints the own-page hours for every office in section 9, and never copies a nearby-card hour into a row.

3Services at this office

The office provides nine services, exactly as listed on dmv.ca.gov, in the order printed. Each category below is explained in one plain sentence, staying inside the official label — no invented sub-services, because the official page lists categories, not an enumeration of every transaction inside them:

Service (official list)What it means for your visit
Licensing ServicesDriver licenses (new, renewal, replacement), ID cards, and REAL ID applications at the counter. REAL ID first applications require an in-person office visit with original documents — this is the single biggest reason people still visit in person. Start the application online first for a confirmation code; it shortens counter time.
TestingKnowledge (written) tests and behind-the-wheel drive tests, booked through the official scheduler. The list says “Testing” and nothing more specific — motorcycle and commercial testing availability is not itemized for this office, so check the scheduler rather than assuming either. See section 5.
Title TransfersPrivate-party sales, family transfers, and out-of-state titles. Bring the signed title — a missing signature is the classic second-trip cause. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification at the office.
RegistrationNew vehicle registrations and renewals that cannot be completed online or at a kiosk. Simple registration renewals are often kiosk or online tasks instead — check section 7 before booking.
Plates, Permits, & PlacardsReplacement license plates, temporary operating permits, and disabled person placards. Placard applications can also be handled by mail on the official form — this page mentions the mail route so readers who do not need to visit are not funnelled into an appointment.
Replace Lost/Stolen/DamagedDuplicate driver licenses, registration cards, and vehicle titles when the original is lost, stolen, or damaged. Check online eligibility first — a replacement that can be ordered online does not need a Blackstone Avenue trip.
RecordsDriver and vehicle record requests. Records are also available online and at kiosks in some cases; treat the office as the fallback for records that cannot be obtained another way, not the default.
Request miscellaneous original documentsThe catch-all counter category for original documents that have no online route, reproduced verbatim from the official list. Described honestly as a catch-all: if your document is not listed anywhere else, this is the counter category to ask about, and you should call the statewide line before travelling for an unusual document.
Self Service TerminalsThe on-site kiosk. It handles certain registration services and record requests; it does not issue licenses, run tests, or process REAL ID. That line is drawn sharply throughout this page, or readers will queue at the kiosk for a task it cannot do.

Payment is the same statewide line printed on the office page: the DMV accepts cash, check, credit card, debit card, digital wallet, and money order at field offices. The statewide phone line for everything is 1-800-777-0133 (automated 24/7; live representatives Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM). Present it exactly that way — as the statewide line — never as “the Fresno North office’s direct number,” because no office-specific number is published for Fresno North, and the number does not appear on the Fresno North office page itself. Any “direct Fresno North DMV number” from a directory is unverified. This page deliberately prints no fee dollar amounts for individual transactions: fee line items are gated until re-verified on dmv.ca.gov at build time, and the one figure that is safe to state is that booking itself is free.

Before you book, use the office page’s own “Complete It Now!” list — eight online services the Fresno North page itself promotes: renew your vehicle registration; renew your driver’s license or ID card; driver’s license/ID card application; change your address; notice of transfer and release of liability; request a replacement driver’s license; special interest or personalized plates; and request your driver’s record. Every one of these that can be completed online should be tried online before an appointment is booked. The DMV’s own framing is that most services are available online with the DMV or with a DMV-authorized partner. That online-first triage is the page’s decision tree in miniature: (1) can it be done online? (2) is it a kiosk-eligible registration or record task? (3) is it a registration-only task and are you willing to pay a partner fee? (4) does it need a counter, an examiner, or a REAL ID? Then book Blackstone Avenue. (5) is Fresno North booked out? Use the Olive Avenue office first, then Clovis or Madera, before giving up. One more scope rule before you book, because it saves more trips than any other paragraph on this page: routine services get no counter service at all. Simple registration renewals, eligible license and ID renewals, record copies, and replacement licenses are routed by the DMV to online, kiosk, mail, or phone options — the counter will not do them. If your task is a registration renewal or a record copy, the FoodMaxx kiosk on Shaw Avenue probably beats a weekday office visit. If it is a REAL ID, a first license, a drive test, or a title transfer, the kiosk cannot do it — book the office.

What Fresno North is not — the contrast that makes the page useful: the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center offers only three of these nine categories (Testing, Records, and Request miscellaneous original documents). A reader whose errand is a licence renewal, a title transfer, or a registration should be told plainly: do not go to the Drive Test Center for that — go to Fresno North (or the Olive Avenue office). Conversely, a reader booked for a commercial drive test should be told the test centre exists and is a different address (735 E North Ave) from the field office. That routing guidance is the page’s real local value, and it comes entirely from the official services lists.

4Appointments: how to book, what needs one, and walk-ins

Booking happens only on the DMV’s official scheduler, and it is free. Here is the play for a Fresno North visit:

Step 1. Go to the official DMV appointment page (“Schedule an Appointment” on dmv.ca.gov).

Step 2. Choose your appointment type FIRST. This is the highest-value sentence in this section: a field-office visit and a behind-the-wheel drive test are handled as separate appointment types in the official scheduler, with separate queues. Booking the wrong type means rebooking. Pick “office visit” for licenses, ID, registration, and most counter services; pick “drive test” for the road test.

Step 3. Search by ZIP (93710) or “Fresno North” and pick the Blackstone Avenue office — not a partner address and not a kiosk address, neither of which takes appointments. Watch out for the Blackstone Avenue trap in section 8: a partner at 5247 N Blackstone Avenue is on the same street as the field office at 6420 N Blackstone Avenue, and it is still not the field office. And watch the IBC trap in section 1: the Fresno IBC shares the office’s exact address, so confirm the listing says “Fresno North Field Office,” not “Fresno IBC.”

Step 4. Pick a date and time. Morning slots move fastest. If Fresno North shows nothing on your date, widen the same search to the Olive Avenue office first — it offers the same hours pattern and the same nine services — then to Clovis or Madera, before giving up. Offices serve all California residents regardless of home address, and cancellations open slots when you check back. Remember the Veterans Day closure: Wednesday, November 11, 2026 is closed, so do not expect a slot that day.

Step 5. Enter your contact details and confirm. Save the confirmation — you will need it if anything changes.

Prefer the phone? Call the statewide line, 1-800-777-0133 (automated 24/7; live representatives Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM). The Fresno North page also carries a same-day “Get in Line” check-in element — describe it honestly as a same-day option shown on the office page, not as a guaranteed walk-in route, and never as a promise of same-day availability or a blanket walk-in policy. Those are unverifiable topics, and they stay unverified here. The Get in Line queue runs 7:50 am–4:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 8:50 am–4:00 pm on Wednesdays, and the QR Virtual Intake system that rolled out in April 2026 is an addition to Get in Line, not a replacement for it — Get in Line was never discontinued. If you are heading to the office without an appointment, check the official office page on the morning of your visit for the current same-day check-in option, and bring everything on our documents checklist so you do not burn a second trip. More on the whole booking process in our California DMV appointment guide. This page prints no wait-time minutes: the live wait display on dmv.ca.gov changes hourly, and any snapshot quoted here would go stale within the hour — check the live display on the morning of your visit instead. And the new-resident rule that belongs in every office guide, stated the right way round because the internet so often reverses it: for a new California resident, vehicle registration is due within 20 days and a California driver license within 10 days. License 10, registration 20 — never reversed.

One more honest note on appointments, because Fresno’s two offices make it matter: because Fresno North and the Olive Avenue office offer the same services and the same hours, the appointment system is the tie-breaker — book whichever of the two (or Clovis) shows the soonest slot for your service type. That is practical, true, and needs no invented availability figure. And do not trust a guide that claims the DMV releases new slots at a particular hour of the night, or that appointments “typically fill 4 to 6 weeks out,” or that you can “usually book up to 60 days ahead” — none of those figures was verified on dmv.ca.gov, and this page prints none of them. The scheduler shows you what is actually available, today, for Fresno North; that is the only availability figure that counts.

5Driving tests at Fresno North: what to expect

Fresno North’s drive-test story starts with the booking warning from section 4, because it is where the most rebooking happens: a behind-the-wheel test is handled as a separate appointment type from a general office visit. Book “drive test” for the road test, not a general visit. The office lists “Testing” among its official services, so tests happen here — but this page asserts no examiner route. No verified turn-by-turn route text exists for Fresno North, and practice loops on third-party sites are someone’s guess, not the examiner’s plan. Do not buy a “guaranteed Fresno North route” from anyone, and do not repeat any third-party “Fresno North DMV test route” post as if it were official. What you can prepare for is the standard California examiner skill set, from the California Driver Handbook and our driving test appointment guide: left and right turns, stops at intersections, lane changes with mirror and blind-spot checks, straight-line reversing, curbside parking, traffic checks, and space management. The places test-takers most often lose points are residential segments — parked cars, cross-street traffic, pedestrians — not wide arterials, and the classic point-losers everywhere in California are missed mirror and blind-spot checks before lane changes, rolling stops, following too closely, speed mismatched to conditions (not just the posted limit), and pedestrian-awareness failures at crosswalks.

Test-day checklist (standard statewide): your instruction permit (or existing license); a licensed driver to accompany you; the test vehicle’s current registration and proof of insurance; and a car that passes the examiner’s pre-drive check — brakes (foot and parking), horn, turn signals front and back, brake lights, tires, unobstructed windshield, working doors and windows, a driver-side window that rolls down, seat belts, two mirrors, two plates with current registration, defroster, hazard lights, headlights, and wipers. The examiner will ask you to locate and demonstrate controls (window, wipers, signals, brake lights, horn, parking brake, defroster, hazards, headlights) and arm signals. After a failed test, a waiting period applies before retesting and attempts are limited — the scheduler shows when you can rebook, and this page prints no specific wait or attempt numbers without a Handbook citation. One scope note that matters for families: drive tests happen at the field office only — not at a kiosk, not at a partner, not online. And the motorcycle and commercial notes, stated once plainly: neither motorcycle skills-test availability nor commercial-license testing availability is itemized for this office on its official page, so check the scheduler for both — and do not trust a competitor’s “Motorcycle test” or “No CDL test” tag for this office, because neither claim appears on the official Fresno North page. Commercial drive tests are the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center’s business (735 E North Ave), not the field office’s — and even there, the centre’s own page lists only the category “Testing,” so this page asserts no commercial-test detail for it either.

6REAL ID at Fresno North

A first REAL ID is an in-person job, and Fresno North is where north Fresno residents do it. The DMV requires a first REAL ID application to be made in person at a field office, with original documents — a first-time REAL ID needs proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, and two proofs of California residency, all originals, never photocopies. Check the exact document list on the DMV’s REAL ID page before your visit, and start the application online first for a confirmation code — it shortens counter time. REAL ID enforcement for domestic flights began May 7, 2025, so a standard license alone no longer gets you through a TSA checkpoint, and that date is the reason the REAL ID queue at this office stays busy. Book an appointment — a walk-in REAL ID visit risks a wasted trip, because the document check takes longer than a simple renewal — and do not arrive at the last hour of the day: the office closes at 5:00 pm and the document review needs real counter time. The kiosk inside the office cannot issue a REAL ID, and no partner can either; the partners in section 8 handle registration-type services, not REAL ID. Details in our REAL ID appointment guide. One more scope note: a REAL ID is issued at the field office, not at a kiosk and not by a partner, and a renewal of an existing REAL ID is a different, simpler transaction than a first application — check online eligibility before booking a counter visit for a renewal.

Fresno State students, take note: California State University, Fresno’s own international-student DMV handout lists all three Fresno-area offices — Clovis, Fresno (Olive Avenue), and Fresno North — with the statewide 1-800-777-0133 number, and advises students to schedule an appointment before going. If you are a student at Fresno State, Fresno North is the closest full field office to campus on the Blackstone Avenue corridor, and the same REAL ID rules apply to you as to any other first-time applicant: original documents, in person, at the field office. The university handout is a signpost, not a partnership — there is no Fresno State–DMV partnership behind it, and this page claims none.

7The kiosk story: one on site, three at grocery stores, four machines in total

Read this section as the correction to every guide that gets Fresno North’s kiosk position wrong in either direction. Fresno North is a kiosk office — but “kiosk” on this page means four different machines, and merging them is how readers waste trips. The on-site kiosk sits inside the field office and is available during office hours. The three grocery-store kiosks are different machines in stores, listed as open every day including weekends when the office is closed. Count it carefully, the way this series counts everywhere: 1 on-site kiosk (inside the Fresno North field office) + 3 nearby grocery kiosks (Vons in Clovis, FoodMaxx in Fresno, Foods Co in Fresno) = 4 kiosk locations in the cluster, of which 2 are in Fresno itself (FoodMaxx and Foods Co) and 1 is in Clovis. Never write “4 kiosks in Fresno North” — that is the counting error this series warns against, and it would be wrong here too.

What kiosks do, per dmv.ca.gov: they are “self-serve stations where you can complete certain registration services and request driver or vehicle records,” and “the range of services varies by kiosk location.” Registration renewals and planned non-operation filings are the classic kiosk wins: no appointment, no line, and you print your registration card and sticker on the spot. What kiosks cannot do: no appointments, no knowledge or drive tests, no REAL ID issuance, no new licenses. The decision rule is simple — if the task is a renewal or a record copy, use a kiosk; if the task involves you (license, permit, test, REAL ID), book the Blackstone Avenue office. More in our DMV kiosk guide. Kiosk hours follow the host grocery store’s hours in practice, so confirm on dmv.ca.gov before a late-night trip, and do not present the listed hours as a DMV guarantee — they are the store-hours listing, not a DMV promise. Two flagged imports, stated honestly so they are never mistaken for Fresno North-list items: the Hanford page’s nearby list shows a Foods Co kiosk in Hanford (1850 W. Lacey Blvd., Hanford, CA 93230, Mon–Sun 6:00 am–1:00 am), and the Reedley page’s nearby list shows a Save Mart kiosk in Reedley (1580 E. Manning Ave., Reedley, CA 93654, Mon–Sun 6:00 am–12:00 am) and a Superior Grocers kiosk in Dinuba. Those appear on the Hanford and Reedley pages’ lists, not Fresno North’s, and this page does not count them in the Fresno North cluster. The same applies to any other kiosk found on a neighbouring office’s page: flag its true source page, or leave it out.

Contrast this with Reedley and Visalia: neither office’s own page shows a kiosk signal at all. A reader choosing between Fresno North and Reedley purely on kiosk availability should be told Fresno North has one and Reedley, on its current official listing, does not. That is a real, verified, decision-relevant difference — and it is exactly the kind of claim that must come from each office’s own page, which is why the research for this page checked Reedley and Visalia separately instead of assuming every office has a kiosk. Note, however, that the kiosk is NOT what separates Fresno North from its two closest neighbours: both the Olive Avenue office and Clovis also have on-site kiosks. In the Fresno cluster, the kiosk question only bites against Reedley, Visalia, Coalinga, and Los Banos.

8DMV partners near Fresno North: registration help for an extra fee

DMV business partners are private businesses authorized by the DMV to handle certain registration services — not DMV offices, and not a substitute for one. The official wording is worth quoting: partners handle registration services “often with much shorter wait times (if any!)” and “additional fees may be applied by this partner.” Ask the price before handing over paperwork — the partner’s fee is on top of the DMV’s, and this page quotes no partner fee figure, because none was verified. Partners handle registration-type work only; they do not issue licenses, run tests, or process REAL ID. The Fresno North page’s own nearby list carries three partners, and every row below carries its listed hours — no partner on this list shows an anomalous all-closed pattern, so no row needs the name-address-phone-only treatment.

Central Valley Auto Registration Services
5247 N. Blackstone Avenue, Fresno, CA 93710 — 1-559-375-1840
Mon–Fri 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Sat 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Sun closedLatest weekday closer (7:00 pm) and open Saturday. Same street as the field office (Blackstone Avenue), different number — 5247 versus 6420 N Blackstone. Do not confuse the two Blackstone Avenue addresses; the partner is not the office

Partners NOT on the Fresno North page’s list, mentioned only to prevent import errors: two further DMV-authorised locations have their own dmv.ca.gov business-partner pages and name the Fresno North field office on their own nearby lists — the AAA Fresno N Fresno Branch – Park Crossing (8380 N Fresno St Suite 101, Fresno, CA 93720, member use only) and Central Auto Insurance Agency – Fresno — but neither appears on the Fresno North page’s nearby list as checked on November 5, 2026, so neither is added as a verified Fresno North partner row here. The AAA Park Crossing branch is worth naming once, for a different reason: it is the nearest AAA branch to this office, it is member-only, and its hours were not extracted in the research for this page — call before visiting rather than trusting any listing blindly. The pattern for partners everywhere is the same: partners = vehicle paperwork; the field office = everything involving you (licenses, permits, tests, REAL ID). Match your task to the right counter before you go, and never pay a partner a “booking fee” for an office appointment — booking on dmv.ca.gov is free.

9Nearby DMV offices: the Central Valley decision table

Every field office below runs the same weekly pattern (Monday–Tuesday 8–5, Wednesday 9–5, Thursday–Friday 8–5, Saturday–Sunday closed) and the same six payment methods, and each was verified on its own dmv.ca.gov page on November 5, 2026 — never copied from another office’s nearby card. The hours sameness is itself a finding: a reader cannot pick between these offices on hours, so the comparison below turns on kiosk availability, the part-time exceptions, and appointment availability instead. The decision is never an invented wait-time ranking and never a distance figure, because no distance between any two offices is asserted in the research for this page.

OfficeAddress & kioskBest for
Fresno North (this office)6420 N Blackstone Avenue, Fresno, CA 93710 — kiosk on siteNorth Fresno, Clovis, and the Fresno County towns with no office of their own; the default choice; drive tests and REAL ID here, plus an on-site kiosk
Fresno (Olive Avenue)655 W Olive Avenue, Fresno, CA 93728 — kiosk on siteThe other Fresno office — the primary “Fresno North is booked” alternative, with the same hours, the same nine services, and the same on-site kiosk. Our guide: Fresno DMV
Clovis2103 Shaw Avenue, Clovis, CA 93611 — kiosk on siteThe closest neighbouring city, north-east of Fresno — the primary alternative for readers in north-east Fresno and Clovis itself. Print the address as 2103 Shaw Avenue, never any other Shaw Avenue number
Madera1206 Maple Street, Madera, CA 93637 — kiosk on siteThe north-west backup, in the next county seat up Highway 99, for readers north of Fresno
Reedley1890 E Dinuba Avenue, Reedley, CA 93654 — NO kiosk listedThe south-east alternative, a smaller city in Fresno County — a valid alternative on hours and services, but a reader who wants a kiosk should be sent to Fresno North, the Olive Avenue office, Clovis, or Madera instead
Visalia1711 East Main Street, Visalia, CA 93292 — NO kiosk listedThe large-city alternative to the south-east, in Tulare County. Our guide: Visalia DMV. Note that Visalia’s own nearby list names Tulare first, confirming the Visalia–Tulare pair from the other direction
Merced1313 W 12th Street, Merced, CA 95340 — kiosk on siteThe further-north-west backup, further up Highway 99
Hanford701 W Hanford Armona Road (corner of W Armona), Hanford, CA 93230 — kiosk on siteThe southern backup, in Kings County — the address as the DMV prints it, including “(corner of W Armona),” which helps a reader find the entrance
Tulare (further south)274 E Cross Avenue, Tulare, CA 93274 — kiosk on siteThe furthest-south verified alternative on this page
Coalinga (Tue/Thu ONLY)406 East Elm Avenue, Coalinga, CA 93210 — Tue + Thu 8–5 only; closed all other days — NO kiosk listedA part-time office further out — open Tuesday and Thursday only, so a poor substitute for Fresno North. Never copy the standard Mon–Fri pattern into this row; the Tue/Thu-only pattern is the whole point of listing it
Los Banos (Tue/Thu ONLY)814 West L Street, Los Banos, CA 93635 — Tue + Thu 8–5 only; closed all other days — NO kiosk listedA part-time office further out, with the identical Tue/Thu-only pattern as Coalinga — open Tuesday and Thursday only, closed every other day in the November 1–14 window, including Veterans Day
Fresno IBC (special — NOT a field office)6420 North Blackstone Ave., Fresno, CA 93710 — Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 7:00 am–4:00 pm, Wed 8:00 am–4:00 pm — NO services listed, NO kiosk signalNOT a substitute for the Fresno North field office. This is the source of the 7:00 am hours that some guides wrongly attach to Fresno North — the 7:00 am opening belongs to this Industry Business Center alone. Its Services Provided block is empty on its own page. Check the DMV page before visiting; do not drive here expecting counter service
Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center (special — testing/records only)735 E North Ave, Fresno, CA 93725 — Mon–Tue/Thu–Fri 7:00 am–4:00 pm, Wed 8:00 am–4:00 pm — NO kiosk listedTesting and records ONLY — no licensing, no registration, no title transfers. A reader who needs licensing, registration, or a title transfer must go to Fresno North or the Olive Avenue office instead. Do not repeat any drive-test route, motorcycle-testing, or commercial-testing claim for this centre: none appears on its own page

Three disambiguations save real trips. First, Fresno has exactly two full field offices in this research: Fresno North and Fresno (Olive Avenue). Searches for a third Fresno office name — “Fresno South” in particular — return 404 on dmv.ca.gov, so this page does not invent a third Fresno office. Second, Reedley and Visalia are the exceptions that prove the table was built office by office: every other field office in the table carries the kiosk double signal (callout + Self Service Terminals), and Reedley and Visalia carry neither. Either they genuinely have no on-site self-service terminal, or their pages omit one — either way, this page does not claim a Reedley or Visalia kiosk, and phrases the comparison as “Reedley’s official listing does not show a self-service terminal, while Fresno North’s does.” Third, the Fresno IBC is not a field office at all, and its row is separated from the field-office rows on purpose: it shares Fresno North’s exact address, its hours break the cluster pattern, and its services block is empty. One more DMV display inconsistency, flagged and not resolved: the IBC’s own nearby card on the Fresno North page says “Wed closed — closed” while its own page calendar says Wednesday 8:00 am–4:00 pm open. This page prints the IBC’s own-page hours (Wed 8–4) and does not try to resolve the disagreement. And one office deliberately left out of the table: Mendota (655 Quince Street, Mendota, CA 93640) has a live dmv.ca.gov page, but its two-week calendar shows closed on every single day, November 1–14, and its services list runs to records only — no licensing, testing, registration, or kiosk. It is not a usable alternative on current evidence, so it is not in the table; check its dmv.ca.gov page before travelling there.

10No DMV office in Selma, Sanger, or Kerman — and no “Fresno South” office

Every URL in this table was checked on dmv.ca.gov on November 5, 2026, with Fresno North, Fresno (Olive Avenue), Clovis, Madera, Reedley, Visalia, Merced, Hanford, Tulare, Coalinga, Los Banos, Mendota, the Fresno IBC, and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center run as controls in the same pass (all returned HTTP 200). A 404 on the canonical field-office slug is the evidence: dmv.ca.gov has no field-office page for that place, and no field office may be printed for it.

Place with NO field officeWhat it actually has (official lists)Where its residents go
Fresno SouthNo field office — there is no “Fresno South DMV” on dmv.ca.govFresno North, the Olive Avenue office, or the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center for testing
SelmaNo field office on the lists checkedFresno North, Reedley, or Visalia
SangerNo field office on the lists checkedFresno North, Clovis, or Reedley
KermanNo field office on the lists checked (including under a combined Kerman–Firebaugh slug)Fresno North or Madera

The directory warning applies across the table: third-party directories recycle addresses and hours without a verification date, and the only cure is checking dmv.ca.gov. If a directory gives you an office street address for any place in the phantom table, treat it as unverified directory data, not an official office. “Fresno South DMV,” “Selma DMV,” “Sanger DMV,” and “Kerman DMV” are plausible, high-intent searches with no official office behind them — all four are Fresno County communities whose residents would reasonably expect a DMV. A page that says “there is no DMV field office in Selma, Sanger, or Kerman — the nearest verified offices are Fresno North, Clovis, and Reedley” serves those searches honestly and earns the correction traffic that directory sites lose by inventing listings. Selma and Sanger matter most here: both are Fresno County cities on the road south-east from Fresno, both would reasonably expect a DMV, and both are served, on current official evidence, by Fresno North first.

11Best time to visit — what to bring — and getting there without a car

  • Best: an appointment at any hour beats a walk-in at any hour. Within the week, the 8:00 AM opening is the calmest structural window — except on Wednesdays, when the office opens at 9:00 AM, not 8:00.
  • Good: mid-afternoon on a weekday, after the lunch period clears — stated as general timing sense, not as a Fresno North crowd measurement, because no Fresno North crowd data was verified.
  • Worst (structural, not measured): Mondays and Fridays, the first and last days of the month, and days right after a holiday are the standard DMV peak pattern everywhere — and this page labels that as the standard pattern, not as a Fresno North measurement, because no Fresno North wait-time data exists on the official page.
  • Wednesday quirk: the office opens at 9:00 AM, not 8:00 — do not show up at 8:00 expecting the early-bird advantage. This is the single most repeated warning on this page, because it is the single most common avoidable mistake. The other Wednesday warning is the calendar one: Wednesday, November 11, 2026 is closed entirely for Veterans Day.
  • When Fresno North is full: check the Olive Avenue office first (same hours pattern, the same nine services), then Clovis or Madera, in the same search — and check back for cancellations. If your task is a renewal or a record copy, the FoodMaxx kiosk on Shaw Avenue beats any office queue, including on weekends when the office is closed.

Missing paperwork is the most expensive mistake at a busy office — it turns one visit into two, and in a two-office city a second trip still hurts. The rules are the same here as everywhere in California:

  • Originals only. The DMV accepts original documents or certified copies — never photocopies.
  • REAL ID visits: a first REAL ID needs an in-person visit with original documents. Check the DMV’s published REAL ID documents list before you go, and start the application online first for a confirmation code. REAL ID is issued at the field office, not at a kiosk and not by a partner. Details in our REAL ID appointment guide.
  • Registration and title visits: your current registration card, the signed title or transfer paperwork, and smog documentation if applicable. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification at the office.
  • Partner visits: ask the fee first, and bring the registration paperwork the partner needs — partners handle registration-type work only, and AAA branches are member use only.
  • Drive tests: the car’s valid registration and proof of insurance, your permit, and your licensed accompanying driver.

Run through our DMV documents checklist the night before — it is the difference between one trip and two. And the night-before check that costs nothing: confirm the office’s hours on its dmv.ca.gov page, especially on Wednesdays (9:00 AM opening) and around state holidays.

On transit, this page makes only the claims it can stand behind, at planner-check level. Fresno Area Express (FAX) operates the Q bus rapid transit line (Route 1) along Blackstone Avenue from Woodward Station (near Woodward Park) to Clovis Station, 15.7 miles, in service since February 19, 2018, with peak frequencies of about 10 minutes. The office sits on that Blackstone Avenue corridor, so the Q is the transit context for this page — stated at planner-check level on purpose: check the FAX trip planner for the current route to Blackstone Avenue on your travel day. No source checked for this page confirms which stop is closest to 6420 N Blackstone Avenue, how far any stop is from the office door, or what the current timetable is, so this page prints no bus timetable, no frequency, no first/last-bus time, and no “get off at this stop, walk this many minutes” instruction for any bus line. Do not trust a directory’s “walk this many minutes from this stop” instruction.

On parking, this page makes no claim at all — deliberately. No official or credible source describes the Blackstone Avenue office’s lot, its capacity, its street parking, or its accessibility spaces, so this page does not assert “free parking,” a “large lot,” or any parking-difficulty claim. Do not import a parking description from another office’s directory page — a parking description found for a different office on a directory site was deliberately not imported here, because it is a different office from a non-official source. The only safe advice is generic: arrive early and allow time to park, and remember that an appointment moves you through far faster than the walk-in line regardless of lot conditions. If traffic is your concern, the grocery kiosks are the real answer for anything they cover: the FoodMaxx kiosk on Shaw Avenue is listed as open every day from 6:00 am to midnight, and is traffic-proof for kiosk-eligible tasks.

12Why this office matters: the Central Valley’s DMV, and the errors the internet makes about it

Fresno is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. It is the county seat of Fresno County and the largest city in the greater Central Valley region, as well as the most populated city in Central California. It covers about 114.7 square miles and had a population of 542,107 as of the 2020 census, making it the fifth-most populous city in California, the most populous inland city in California, and the 34th-most populous city in the nation. Fresno County’s population was 1,008,654 at the 2020 census. “Fresno” is Spanish for “ash tree.” That is why a single Blackstone Avenue office carries such a wide catchment: the city sits at the county’s centre, against a ring of towns that never built field offices of their own — Selma, Sanger, and Kerman among them. The office’s catchment is a product of that geography, not of any DMV planning document, and this page states it that way. Fresno is also one of the few California cities with two full DMV field offices (Fresno North and Fresno Olive Avenue) plus a dedicated Commercial Drive Test Center and an Industry Business Center. That density is the reason this page’s disambiguation box exists — and it is a fact the finished page can state from the official listings alone.

That is also why the errors about this office matter more than they would for a small-town office. The search results for “Fresno North DMV” mislead in seven quiet ways. First, the invented downtown office — one appointment guide claims a downtown Fresno DMV on Kern Street and that “Fresno County has two full-service DMV locations” — both wrong: there is no DMV field office on Kern Street, and Fresno County has three full field offices (Fresno North, Fresno Olive Avenue, Clovis) plus the drive-test centre and the IBC. Second, the invented Clovis address — the same guide prints the Clovis office on the wrong Shaw Avenue number; the official address is 2103 Shaw Avenue, and this page prints 2103 everywhere. Third, the 7:00 am opening — printed by several guides with a 4:00 pm close — belongs to the Fresno IBC and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center, not to this office, and a reader who trusts it will arrive an hour early on a weekday and find the doors shut, or plan around a 4:00 pm close that does not exist. Fourth, the Saturday opening — one guide claims Saturday hours of 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, another prints Saturday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in its own hours table while its own FAQ on the same page says the office “is not open on weekends,” and a third lists “DMV Fresno” as open Saturday — all wrong: Saturday and Sunday are closed. Fifth, invented wait-time and booking rules — one guide claims you can “usually book up to 60 days ahead,” that “appointments typically fill 4 to 6 weeks out,” that “the DMV releases new appointment slots at midnight Pacific time each night,” and that being “more than 15 minutes late” cancels your appointment; none of those figures was verified on dmv.ca.gov, and this page prints none of them. Sixth, unverified testing tags — one competitor tags this office “No CDL test” and marks it “Motorcycle test” with a cross while marking the Olive Avenue office with a tick — neither claim appears on either office’s official page, which lists only the category “Testing,” and this page repeats neither, in either direction. Seventh, the “call the office directly” framing — directories that print a local-looking number against the office name as if it were a direct line; the only DMV phone this page prints is the statewide 1-800-777-0133, labelled as statewide, every time it appears. The fix is boring and it is the whole point of this page: the correct address, 6420 N Blackstone Avenue; the correct hours, Monday to Friday with a 9:00 am Wednesday open; the correct city picture, two full offices serving a county of over a million people plus a ring of towns with no office; the correct kiosk answer, yes, inside the office, plus three grocery kiosks; and the correct Saturday answer, closed, with the grocery kiosks as the Saturday fallback. Check the address, check the day, book before you drive — and if your errand is a renewal, use the kiosk and do not wait in the counter line at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Fresno North DMV address?

6420 N Blackstone Avenue, Fresno, CA 93710, in Fresno County, California — the north Fresno field office, on Blackstone Avenue. The official office page is dmv.ca.gov/portal/field-office/fresno-north/. Do not confuse it with the other Fresno field office at 655 W Olive Avenue, Fresno, CA 93728, or with the Fresno Industry Business Center, which shares the 6420 N Blackstone Avenue address but is a different listing and not a field office.

What is the difference between Fresno North DMV and the Fresno DMV?

They are two separate full field offices in the same city. Fresno North is at 6420 N Blackstone Avenue (ZIP 93710); Fresno is at 655 W Olive Avenue (ZIP 93728). Same hours, same nine services, both have kiosks on site. Book whichever shows the soonest appointment slot for your service type. Our guide to the other office is at /dmv-offices/fresno/. This is the highest-value question on this page — no competitor answers it cleanly.

What are the Fresno North DMV hours?

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; Wednesday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (opens one hour late); closed Saturday and Sunday. The Wednesday 9:00 AM opening is the mistake to avoid — do not arrive at 8:00 AM on a Wednesday expecting the early-bird advantage. And do not trust any guide that says this office opens at 7:00 AM: the 7:00 AM opening belongs to the Fresno Industry Business Center and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center, two different Fresno listings, not to the Fresno North field office. State holidays can change hours — confirm on the official office page before you go, especially in a holiday week.

Is the Fresno North DMV open on Saturday?

No. Saturday and Sunday are closed on the current official listing. This directly contradicts directory content that claims Saturday hours for this office — one guide claims Saturday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, another prints Saturday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in its own hours table while its own FAQ on the same page says the office is not open on weekends. If you need a Saturday transaction, use a kiosk (section 7) for a registration-type task; a Saturday field-office visit is not an option. Two partners are open Saturdays for registration-type services — Ibarras Registration Service (433 E Keats Ave, 10:00 am–6:00 pm) and Central Valley Auto Registration Services (5247 N Blackstone Ave, 10:00 am–6:00 pm) — but neither is a DMV office.

Is the Fresno North DMV closed on Veterans Day 2026?

Yes. All DMV field offices are closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, in observance of Veterans Day — printed as a banner on the Fresno North office page and confirmed by its two-week calendar, which shows Wednesday, November 11 as closed. If you are planning a visit for that week, book Thursday, November 12 or Friday, November 13 instead. This is the highest-timeliness fact on this page: it publishes on November 5, six days before the closure.

What is the Fresno North DMV phone number?

There is no office-specific phone number on the official page. The only DMV phone this page prints is the statewide line, 1-800-777-0133 (automated 24/7; live representatives Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM) — and it is the statewide line, never a Fresno North direct number. Any “direct Fresno North DMV number” from a directory is unverified. The official page lists no office-specific phone, email, or fax.

Do I need an appointment at the Fresno North DMV?

Book first. Appointments are free on the official DMV scheduler, and an appointment beats a walk-in at any hour. The Fresno North page also carries a same-day “Get in Line” check-in option shown on the office page; that is a same-day option, not a guaranteed walk-in route, and this page promises no same-day availability and no blanket walk-in policy. The Get in Line queue runs 7:50 am–4:00 pm (Wednesdays 8:50 am–4:00 pm). Choose your appointment type carefully: a field-office visit and a behind-the-wheel drive test are handled as separate appointment types in the scheduler, so booking the wrong type means rebooking. Routine renewals, records, and replacements get no counter service at all — do them online, at a kiosk, with a partner, or by mail. If you go without an appointment, check the official office page on the morning of your visit, and bring everything on our documents checklist so you do not burn a second trip.

Does the Fresno North DMV have a kiosk?

Yes — and the evidence is double-confirmed on the office’s own page: the callout “This office has a self-serve kiosk to avoid waiting in line” and “Self Service Terminals” in the official services list. Kiosks are self-serve stations for certain registration services and driver or vehicle records, and the range of services varies by kiosk location. They do not issue licenses, run tests, or process REAL ID. There are also three nearby grocery-store kiosks (section 7) — Vons in Clovis (1650 Herndon Ave, Mon–Sun 5:00 am–12:00 am), FoodMaxx in Fresno (3241 W Shaw Ave, Mon–Sun 6:00 am–12:00 am), and Foods Co in Fresno (4838 E Kings Canyon Rd, Mon–Sun 6:00 am–1:00 am) — for weekend and late-night registration tasks.

What services does the Fresno North DMV offer?

Nine official categories, exactly as listed on dmv.ca.gov: Licensing Services; Testing; Title Transfers; Registration; Plates, Permits, & Placards; Replace Lost/Stolen/Damaged; Records; Request miscellaneous original documents; and Self Service Terminals. Section 3 explains each category in plain language, staying inside the official label — no invented sub-services. Motorcycle and commercial testing availability is not itemized for this office, so check the scheduler rather than assuming either. Contrast with the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center, which offers testing and records only.

How do I get to the Fresno North DMV by public transport?

Planner-check framing only, because no source in this run confirms a stop-to-office walk route, a bus timetable, or office parking — and this page prints none of those. The safe instruction is: check the FAX trip planner for the current route to Blackstone Avenue on your travel day, and stop there. Do not trust a directory’s “walk this many minutes from this stop” instruction, and do not treat station parking figures as office parking.

Is there a DMV office in Selma, Sanger, or Kerman — or a “Fresno South” DMV?

No to all four. None has a dmv.ca.gov field-office page — all four return “Page not found,” verified November 5, 2026. Selma residents use Fresno North, Reedley, or Visalia; Sanger residents use Fresno North, Clovis, or Reedley; Kerman residents use Fresno North or Madera; and there is no “Fresno South DMV” — the nearest verified offices are Fresno North, the Olive Avenue office, and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center for testing. Any directory address for an office in these places is unverified directory data, not an official office.

What other DMV offices are near Fresno North?

Fresno (Olive Avenue, 655 W Olive Ave, kiosk YES) is the other Fresno office and the primary alternative; Clovis (2103 Shaw Ave, kiosk YES) is the closest neighbouring city; Madera (1206 Maple St, kiosk YES) is the north-west backup; Reedley (1890 E Dinuba Ave, kiosk not listed) is the south-east alternative; Visalia (1711 E Main St, kiosk not listed) is the large-city alternative to the south-east; Merced (1313 W 12th St, kiosk YES) is the further-north-west backup; Hanford (701 W Hanford Armona Rd, kiosk YES) is the southern backup; and Tulare (274 E Cross Ave, kiosk YES) is the furthest-south verified alternative. All run the same hours pattern. Coalinga and Los Banos are Tue/Thu-only offices. The Fresno IBC (6420 N Blackstone Ave) is NOT a general field office — it lists no public services — and the Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center (735 E North Ave) does testing and records only. Pick by availability and task type, never by an invented wait-time ranking, and never by a distance figure — no distance is asserted on this page.

Book Before You Drive to Blackstone Avenue

Fresno North is open five days a week, but its appointment book carries the whole north Fresno and Central Valley catchment — and Wednesday opens at 9:00 am, not 8:00, and Wednesday, November 11, 2026 is closed for Veterans Day. Check the day, book on dmv.ca.gov before you drive, and if your errand is a renewal or a record, use the kiosk inside the office, the grocery-store kiosks, or dmv.ca.gov instead of waiting in the counter line.
